Gavin Clarence Ferguson passed away peacefully at The Lodge at Broadmead on December 26, 2015. Born in Edmonton, Alberta on January 18, 1922; Dad served in the Canadian Army Signal Corps during WWII.
Gavin met the love of his life, Betty Rennie, and they were married in Edmonton on April 10, 1943. Dad was predeceased by Mom in 2001; and by son-in-law Bob in 1984.
Dad was always very proud of his family and is survived by daughter Laureen Dye, son Doug and his wife Pat; grandchildren Tracie, husband Jeremy, and great granddaughter Rachel; granddaughter Megan, husband Paul, great grandchildren Tate and Cleo. Gavin is also survived by Marg Ferguson in Victoria; Ian and Edna Rennie of Kelowna, and Gloria Ferguson of Edmonton and their families.
The family moved to Victoria in the mid 60s where dad eventually retired as a proud employee of Woodward’s Stores Ltd. after 37 years. Mom and Dad traveled extensively to Europe, Asia, Australia, New Zealand and Hawaii. He loved to laugh and sing his favorite songs. Dad enjoyed many fond memories of friends as a member of the Central Saanich Lawn Bowling Club; the Saanich Historical Artifacts Society; and the Royal Canadian Legion in Sidney.
A private family Celebration of Life will be held in the spring. The family wish to thank the wonderful caregivers of Bayshore Home Health and the amazing staff at the Lodge at Broadmead for enhancing his life in later years.
Do not grieve when I am gone.
Just sing the songs we all love,
and let life’s laughter
fill the days that I have left behind.

Sue Bourque To Gavin’s family… our sincere condolences to all of you. Gavin was Mom’s (Joan) neighbour at The Lodge at Broadmead. He cared about her and kept an eye on her and that meant the world to us. Visits with Mom became increasingly sad as her dementia took its toll, but Gavin was always there with a smile and words of encouragement. And Doug, you were there for Mom and us too. We will toast Gavin with a glass of scotch, bless him, what a genuinely, lovely human being. Sincerely, Sue Bourque and Deb Hoy, Joan’s girls.

Maureen Deelstra Our family wants to pass on our condolences for the loss of your dad. Your parents were good friends with mine, Ray and Nora Harrison, and enjoyed meeting them very much. I am still making your mom’s “famous fudge” each and every Christmas for a lot of years. We lost our dad in 1995 and our mom 6 January 2015 so I have an idea of what you’re going through. Our prayers are with you. Sincerely, Maureen Deelstra (Harrison)

So very sorry to hear of Gavin’s passing. He was a wonderful man, I always looked forward to seeing him. My thoughts are with you in this difficult time.
