Gerald Fitzpatrick “Pat” Dunn, died peacefully in Victoria on August 26, 2010 five days into his 100th year. He was born in Victoria on August 21, 1911, the son of Henry and Caroline Dunn. Predeased by his brothers Jack and Josias , and first wife Jean ” Bunny “( nee MacDonald), he will be remembered with great love by wife Joan Proctor (nee Fraser); daughters Patricia Lortie (Marc, currently Canadian Ambassador to France) and Sheelah Dunn Dooley (Martin) of Dundas, Ontario; stepdaughter Nancy Walt, and granddaughters Jessica and Caitlin Dooley.
A graduate of Victoria High School, Pat was admitted to the BC Institute of Chartered Accountants in 1942. For many years he was senior partner of Ismay Boiston Dunn and Company Chartered Accountants (now KPMG). He became a fellow of the Institute of Chartered Accountants in 1957 and was President of the BC Institute of Chartered Accountants in 1954. He was active in Victoria business circles and served as President of the Victoria Chamber of Commerce in 1955-56 and President of the BC Chamber of Commerce in 1958-59. He served on the boards of a number of service and other organizations, including the Boy Scouts, St Joseph Hospital, the Gyro Club, the National Trust and Ducks Unlimited.

A keen outsdoorsman, Pat loved fishing and bird hunting with his Labradors and many friends. He was a member of the Victoria Fish and Game Club and a very active member of Ducks Unlimited, the wetlands conservation organization. He served as President of Ducks Unlimited Canada in 1981-82. To commemorate his work with Ducks Unlimited an area of wetland conservation in the Cowichan Bay was named in his honour. He had hunted and fished in many parts of Canada, notably Alberta, but loved Vancouver Island, in particular his fishing lodge on the Cowichan River. He resided in Oak Bay for 60 years. He spent the last year of his long and happy life at St. Charles Manor where he received excellent care. He was one of the oldest members of the Union Club and was a member of the Victoria Golf Club.

There will be a private service and friends will be welcome at a reception at the family home on Saturday, September 4th from 2 to 5. In lieu of flowers, a donation to a land conservation organization or United Way would be appreciated.
