Sadly we announce the passing of our beloved Jerry.

He died peacefully in his sleep with his family around him.

Jerry was born 16th September 1935 in Saskatoon Saskatchewan.  He had a successful and enjoyable 27-year career in the Navy.  Most of his career as a PERI, Physical Education and Recreation Instructor. He was passionate about all sports, especially football, rugby, squash and hockey. After retirement from the RCN, he drove a city bus for the city of Saskatoon for 13 years.  After retiring from this last position, he and his wife Arlene returned to Victoria to be near family.

Jerry was an avid cyclist and golfer. His greatest joy was having family gatherings and meeting with friends.

Jerry will be very much missed by his wife of 63 years, Arlene, his sons Neil (Laurey), Shawn (Donna), Bob (Caroline) and daughter Terri (Dave) as well as his brothers Bob, Melvin and Larry (predeceased).

Also mourning his loss are his ten grandchildren and fourteen great-grandchildren and his nieces and nephews in Canada and the USA.

A celebration of life will be announced at a later date at a time when we can all gather together.  Condolences may be offered to the family below.

Sorry to read of Jerry’s passing. We went to Buena Vista school and the Saskatoon Light Infantry (MG) cadet corps together. He was a great friend and athlete. He served as a model for us younger members of the school and Corps. A life well lived. Belated condolences.

If I am not mistaken Jerry went to the same Buena Vista School in Saskatoon that I went to. And I believe my husband, Rolly, knew Jerry in the Navy. May I offer my sincere condolences in Jerry’s passing. Always so sad to lose a loved one.

My fondest memory of Jerry when we were in Borden was when he volunteered to be the equipment manager for both the CFB Borden Midgets and CFB Borden Braves hockey teams that I had coached. Gwen and I were greatly saddened to learn of Jerry’s passing. We live in the UK but shared living with Jerry and Arlene in Rockland, Victoria for many years and they came to stay with us in England. Jerry was a fun kind of guy and we are grateful for sharing his humour and teaching us to play “Hand & Foot” card game.

I was very sad to hear of Jerry’s passing. I first met Jerry when I arrived at CFB Moose Jaw in Apr 1980 as a very “green” PERO. My trade knowledge and experience was very limited and so was my English. But without any hesitation, Jerry welcomed me as part of the team but not without his usual sarcasm and typical grin!! I loved the guy right away! We shared many coffee breaks down in the CANEX cafeteria attached to the gym with his old buddy George. Great memories. Deepest condolences to Arlene and the family. I remember meeting his son Neil as he was also stationed in Moose Jaw. RIP dear friend!!

    Dear Arlene and family,

Deeply saddened to read about the passing of Jerry, my sincere condolences are conveyed.

Although it’s been many years since my last conversation with Jerry, the memories of our time playing football for HMCS Naden in the late 50’s early 60″s still linger in my mind. Jerry was a superb talent, probably the heart and soul of the team, fearless and determination were the hallmarks of his play.

Later, I was absolutely thrilled and delighted when Jerry was accepted for the PERI training class and eventually graduating as an instructor. Another regret was not knowing Jerry and family had relocated to Victoria, would have loved to spend a few hours chatting about the old days.

    Rest in peace Jerry.

Although I did not grow up with Uncle Jerry while I was young he was very present in my adulthood. My father passed away 25 years ago and Uncle Jerry became a father figure to me. I loved his zest for life, his hardy laugh and I loved him very much. I will miss him greatly.
