Gerald Joseph L’Esperance

Gerry passed away peacefully on Monday April 27th, 2026 at 2:37 a.m. at the age of 79 years old.

Gerry was born in Willow Bunch Saskatchewan on January 16th, 1947; the fourth eldest of 15 children. Predeceased by his parents Jean Louis and Marie-Berthe, as well as his siblings Lorraine, Pauline and Guy.

Gerry is survived by Marie, his loving wife of 56 years, as well as his four children and five grandchildren.

Special thanks to the doctors, nurses and staff of the Victoria Hospice Palliative Response Team, BC Cancer, and the 8th floor Palliative Care Unit of the Royal Jubilee Hospital for their excellent care and making his last days comfortable.

A funeral mass will be held at St. Andrew’s Cathedral in Victoria BC at noon on May 20th, 2026. A Celebration of Life will follow at the Royal Victoria Yacht Club from 1:30-5:00 pm.

In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to The Soup Kitchen (9-10 Club Serving Soup to the Hungry Society: https://www.thesoupkitchen.ca/donation/ ). Gerry both volunteered in the kitchen and actively fund-raised for the 9-10 by offering renovation and carpentry services to friends and neighbours.

He will be remembered for his service to community, his sense of humour, and his loving heart. He will be deeply missed.
