January 14th, 1936 – August 31, 2011
It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Gerry Sykes, with her family by her side, at the Victoria General Hospital. Surrounded by the love of her family, Gerry leaves behind her husband of 45 years, Bob (Robert) and her surviving children, David, Rob, and Kerry. Mom has gone to reunite with her oldest daughter Beverly. She is also survived by six grandchildren and two great grandchildren and her extended family and many friends. In Newfoundland Gerry leaves to mourn, her two sisters, Anne and Liza as well as family and friends.
Gerry will be remembered for her out-going personality, her love and compassion towards others and for her strong ties to her beloved Newfoundland. We take comfort in knowing that mom is dancing with the angels and doing the ‘Boot Stompin’ NewFie Jig.
“Though words alone can’t ease your loss, nor take away your pain; an Angel lays its gentle hand to comfort and sustain.”
A Celebration of life will be held Wednesday, September 7th, 2:00 pm at the Sooke Legion Branch #54. 6726 Eustace Road Sooke, B.C.
In lieu of flowers a donation to the Heart and Stroke Foundation in Gerry’s name would be appreciated.

I am sorry for your loss. I have very fond memories of your mom and how she accepted both Amber and I. Our prayers are with you and yours at a time like this. Your mom opened her home and heart to any and all, she was an angel on earth and now above us, watching over her family and friends.

I was very saddened to read of Geraldine’s obituary in a Newfoundland newspaper. I was a school friend of hers growing up in Burin, Newfoundland. We spent a lot of time together as children. I often wondered where she had gone after she had left Burin. My sincere sympathy to Geraldine’s family and to her sisters and families…God bless.
