1954 - 2024

Our family sadly announces the passing of Gordon on August 31, 2024 at the age of 69 years old. He was born in Victoria, BC and lived in the same house his entire life . He enjoyed tending to it’s garden,  growing beautiful roses and the sweetest tomatoes. He was an early adopter of home videography, often exploring the city and its events with his heavy video equipment of the day and his still camera. Gordon enjoyed the challenges of repairing and MacGyvering  things, whether it was his collection of  cars or a small appliance. He established his career of over 30 years at  BC Ferries beginning as a  terminal attendant then as a ticket agent before retiring as a tower controller.
He is predeceased by his parents and eldest brother David. He will be missed by brothers Michael, Bill and sister-in-law Donna. Also remembered by nieces and nephews Nancy, Ed, Shirley, Grace (Vince Parkinson),Vincent,  grandnephew Andrew and grandniece Kira.

A public urn interment at Royal Oak Burial Park will be held on Thursday, September 19, 2024 at 3:00 pm, followed by a private family gathering as per Gordon’s wishes. 1. Sorry to hear of Gord’s passing. I worked with him one summer at BC Ferries when he was a ticket agent. Though I didn’t know him that well, as I just worked one summer with him being a summer job for me, he said something profound to me that I will never forget. My condolence’s to his family.

  2. Dear Mew Family,

We were saddened when we heard the news. So sorry for your loss. Please accept our deepest condolences.

I go downtown on my bicycle often, and sometimes the route takes me close to the Mew family house. One day in early spring of this year as I rode by, I saw him mowing the lawn and yes, trimming the rose bushes. We had a very nice chat, and this was the last time we saw each other.

    Rest in Peace, Gordon Mew.

  4. I am so sorry for your loss. I worked with Gord for many years and knew him as kind, a good friend, always a smile and rarely a harsh word about anything. He will truly be missed and never forgotten.

  5. Dear Shirley, Nancy, Ed, Grace, Vince, Mrs. Mew, Bill and Mike,

Our family thought the world of Gord. He was kind and generous. We always looked forward to his visits and enjoyed learning about his hand-crafted tools for harvesting fruit from high branches. Some of those tools were extra special because they had been passed down in the family – they were irreplaceable. When we travelled by ferry we always looked for Gord’s car. When we spotted it at the terminal we would head into the coffee shop with hopes that he might spot us and come down from the tower for a visit. We always enjoyed those impromptu visits.

    Sincerely,

Joy and Paul W and family
