May 6, 1920 – October 17, 2015
Grace Wigmore (nee Swetnam) passed away peacefully on October 17, 2015 to be with her Lord at the age of 95. She was predeceased by her sisters, Dorothy and Iris and brother, Ken. Grace is survived by her loving husband, William (Bill) and her loving daughter, Gayle Wigmore; brother-in-law, Roger Wigmore (Marilynn); numerous second cousins, including Barry Mackey (Anne), Mary Parsons (Phil) and numerous nieces and nephews. Grace was born in Victoria and lived a full, long life. She was a Milliner and worked for Miss Frith in her late teens and early 20’s. She married Bill on June 5th, 1948 at the age of 28 and they had a happy 67 years together. Grace was also a wonderful seamstress and made many clothes for herself and for Gayle. Even Gayle’s dolls all had matching outfits. When Gayle got a new dress so did her dolls. Grace enjoyed 5 pin bowling at the Esquimalt Bowling Lanes for years. Grace also enjoyed travelling and went on many trips with Bill and Gayle including a trip with Gayle to the Orient in 1970. After Bill retired, Grace and Bill went on numerous holidays including bus trips all over the U.S., New Zealand and Europe as well as the Orient. They also went on many sea cruises on many different cruise ships to Alaska, the Caribbean, Mexico and the Panama Canal.
The family would like to thank the Staff at the Waterview Unit of the Gorge Road Hospital for all their loving care and support during the last 3+ years of Grace’s life. They took very good care of her during this time and made her feel welcome and comfortable. Special thanks to Gayle’s partner, Paul who has been very good and supportive to Grace and Bill and to Cousin Barry and his wife, Anne who have been very supportive; driving from Comox on a regular basis to visit Grace at the Gorge. Thanks to neighbors Bob and Joan Ainscough as well.
A funeral service will be held at McCall’s Downtown, Johnson & Vancouver Streets, on Friday, October 23rd at 11:00 a.m. A Burial service at Royal Oak Burial Park will follow after fellowship and refreshments have been enjoyed at McCall’s. In lieu of flowers, please make a donation to Camp Imadene through the Imadene Foundation. Condolences may be offered to the family below.

Lloyd and Edna Mackey While our visits with Bill and Grace were infrequent in recent years, due to our living most of the way across Canada, we always enjoyed their warm and congenial fellowship and stimulating conversations. We wish Bill comfort during this time of grief and God’s care as he lives life with his memories of his beloved Grace. We are grateful that Lloyd’s brother and sister, Barry and Mary, were able to keep and forge a strong family link through the Swetnam connection through the decades.
Best,
Lloyd and Edna
