Buchwald, Guadalupe (Chavez Diaz) passed away after numerous medical issues on July 22, 2016 at the Victoria General Hospital in Victoria, BC while surrounded by loved ones.
She was born in Morelia, Mexico on March 2, 1940.
Guadalupe is survived by her husband David of 48 years, her children Paul and Anne-Marie (Mike), her grandsons Ben and Alex and her siblings Gabriel (Kathy), Lilia, Laura (German), Raul (Sylvia) and Rafel (Margarita). She will be deeply missed by many many people that she touched as part of her journey of life.
She faced many medical issues over the past number of years and always overcame them against difficult odds, yet she remained cheerful, stubborn and optimistic regardless and always was more concerned about the comfort and feelings of those around her despite any pain or discomfort she was experiencing.
Guadalupe lead a remarkable diverse life – activist, medical lab technician, biochemist, biology laboratory instructor at the University of Alberta, Tai Chi Instructor, Spanish teacher, Girl Guide enthusiast, photographer, natural history lover and explorer. In recent years, she developed a strong interest in the theory and practice of Family Constellations (especially at Haida Gwaii) and many aspects of Spirituality and Sacred Geometry. Our lives were greatly enhanced by her presence, devotion, persistence and love. She always searched for new ideas and perspectives. She always was willing to help anyone at anytime if she felt they needed support or assistance. She supported everyone in her life and always was giving of spirit and affection. Her goal was to know herself and her place in the universe and those who loved her know she passed confident that she was ready for whatever came next.
She was foremost a teacher but the subject matter changed constantly throughout her life. She taught Biology, Spanish, photography, Tai Chi, massage, relaxation techniques, Reki, Astrology, Spiritual Counselling and many more subjects as she saw fit. She was giving of her time and always drew great joy from dear friends and her family. She adored her grandchildren, especially spending time with them in nature and the outdoors.
She was a loving wife, a caring and supportive mom, devoted sister, a friend to all, a shoulder to cry on, warm arms to be held by and a voice in the moonlight. She was loved and loved with equal passion. She looked at the stars and the moon, lived on the earth and wondered what was next.
She will be grieved and greatly missed. For anyone reading this who is feeling sad or depressed in her passing, know that she is happy and resting somewhere with a cup of hot tea, smiling at all the love she feels from all of us.
A small private gathering will be held in Edmonton and her ashes will be spread in a Rocky Mountain alpine meadow which was one of her favorite places.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to a charity of your choice including the Canadian Diabetes Society.
Condolences for the family can be offered to the family below.

Julie Luckevich I am so sad to have lost my dear neighbour and friend, Guadalupe. She was the first person my late husband met upon moving to Victoria 2 years ago, and she was so supportive and comforting when I lost him a few short months ago. She was a remarkably generous, gifted and special soul, who left us far too soon. I treasure the memory of her wisdom, compassion , and above all, her kindness. With much love, Julie and Robert

Kim Sanderson To Dave, Paul and Anne-Marie and extended families,
With great sadness, I read your beautiful tribute to Guadalupe in today’s Edmonton paper. She changed the direction of my career in a wonderful way when she suggested I apply for that position with the ECA those many years ago. Her enthusiasm for life was contagious and the world is poorer for her passing. Dave, although we have not seen the two of you for some years, we are grateful for the many happy memories.

Dorothy Tovell My sincere sympathy to Dave, Paul and Anne-Marie. I have so many memories of times shared in Edmonton. I will never forget the day we drove to the farm to photograph prairie crocus. Guadalupe was unforgettable and I am one of the many who benefitted from her giving nature. I regret that I did not see her in Victoria last fall, but I am grateful that I had the pleasure of hearing her voice again after so many years. How fortunate we are that in our hearts we keep forever the memories of those we love and the time we shared.

Just happened to try and find old friends from the Pursuit class and remembered how much I enjoyed you two. I was so saddened to hear of Guadalupe’s passing when I looked up your names since I moved to BC.
