October 24, 1923 to August 26, 2010

It is with great sorrow that we announce the passing of our father on August 26, in Victoria. Hans left us peacefully, in the presence of his daughter and son-in-law, Christa and John Oxford. He was predeceased by his beloved wife, Christel and his only brother, Adolf. He is survived by his daughter and son-in-law, brothers-in-law, Kurt, George and John Herzberg and their wives, Loni, Flora and Mary, respectively, as well as, six nieces and many friends. Born in Pulverholz, Germany, Hans immigrated to Canada, together with his wife and daughter, in 1952. After twelve years in Regina, the family moved to Winnipeg, where Hans co-founded Auto Haus Fort Garry. In addition to establishing a successful business, Hans pursued an active outdoor life, enjoying fishing, sailing, water skiing, downhill skiing and golf. He was a member of Southwood Golf and Country Club in Winnipeg and Royal Colwood Golf and Country Club in Victoria. After retiring to Victoria, he spent many happy hours on the water fishing. Hans is remembered by his many friends in Canada, the United States and Germany for his quiet manner and the many kindnesses and helping hands he extended when they were needed most. He is deeply loved and missed. No formal service will be held. His ashes will be scattered at sea, as he requested. Anyone wishing to honor his memory is encouraged to make a donation to the Heart and Stroke Foundation. Condolences may be offered at www.mccallbros.com.

    Christa and John

So sorry to hear that your father has passed. Christel and I golfed together every week at Southwood for years and my husband Ron and I had many good times there with Christel and Hans. We also spent many happy days in Maui golfing and just enjoying the winter with them. We visited them in Victoria and played golf there too. I tried to post some pictures we have, but was unable to do so. If you would like copies please email me.

Christel and Hans were so pleased that you and John were able to move to Victoria while she was still able to enjoy your company. I’m sure you were a blessing to Hans these past years as well.
    I miss them both.

    All the Best

    Dear Christa and John
We were saddened by the loss of Crystel and now by the passing of Hans. Don and Hans played golf in the same foursome for several years and shared a love for the outdoors. God Bless those years

    Dear Crista and John,
I read the obituary for your father’s passing with regret. I’m prompted to offer on behalf of myself and my wife and staff our most sincere condolences for the loss of a gentleman. Hans
was a gentle man in the truest sense. I am sure he will be sorely missed. Losing a loved one is very difficult and the platitude “time will heal the wound” is often offered at this time but it has merit. Memories provides solace.
    Sincerely,
    David Philip
