Buncy Sangha passed away peacefully in his 84th year on Tuesday, June 18, 2019, surrounded by the love of his family. Predeceased by his parents, Ajaib Singh and Pritam Kaur and older brothers, Tara and Jake, Buncy is survived by Harvant, his devoted wife of 57 years; his children, Cathy (Lance), Cary, and Cory (Ashley); grandchildren, Carly, Alexander, Harrison, Sabrina, Ella, Claire, Allie and Kate; sisters, Minder Berar, Buchan Mahon; brother, Mimby; cousins, Mel; Anita; many nieces, nephews and extended family.

Buncy was born in Victoria, BC on January 17, 1935. He attended Victoria College and UBC to study business. He began his career working for his family business at the young age of 13 as a driver delivering firewood. Over time, the company began paving, and Buncy worked with his father and brothers, and eventually became the president of OK Industries. With the help of his brothers, he built the company from a small office on Topaz Avenue in Victoria, BC to a large corporation with head office in Central Saanich from where he oversaw a business that covered Vancouver Island and beyond. Buncy dedicated his life to his work, building the business in order to provide for his family. He was generous with his children and grandchildren as well as supporting his siblings and extended family. Through the Buncy and Harvant Charitable Foundation, they supported various organizations throughout Vancouver Island over the years.  He was an incredible businessman, and had a passion for the road building industry, and made an impact on all those with whom he worked with. He paved his way to success.

A sincere thank you to Dr. Chatha, all the emergency room staff at Saanich Peninsula Hospital, and BC Ambulance.

A private family service will take place at McCall Gardens.  All are welcome to attend prayers and a light lunch at the Sikh Temple, 1210 Topaz Avenue, at 12:00 pm on Sunday, June 30, 2019.

A Celebration of Life will take place at Mary Winspear Center, 2243 Beacon Avenue, from 1:00 pm – 4:00 pm on Saturday, August 17, 2019.

My dad Don Barnett worked with OK INDUSTRIES back in the 70s. Dad was involved with OK TRANSPORT in port Coquitlam . Don and Audrey attended many functions and parties with the Sangha family. Mom and Dad always were treat like a part of the family and they FELT part of the family. That memory is still with me
all these years later. He was a special MAN. My mom and I would like to send our most dearest and deepest condolences to all the family. Mr Sangha was a true friend and gentleman. From Audrey and Lorraine Barnett. ( Don passed away in 1997)

  • Cari Lees( formerly Rai)

It is sad to hear of the passing of Buncy, I recall Verna Rai telling me if how when her kids were small and she found herself in need of a home and provisions for her family he helped with moving them back home. I know that when Bryon decided to get into the heavy duty mechanics course and our family was young and new to Victoria he showed us compassion and faith in Bryon and allowed him to apprentice and later employed him and I will be forever thankful to him for providing the stable and steady employment and support in our time of need that allowed Bryon to provide for us in our time of need and uncertain future. Dedicated businessman..father..employer and husband. My condolences to the family and mostly to Harvant and the 3 C’s…a man deserving to have his life and accomplishments modeled after…thank you Uncle Buncy xo

  • Bruce Arnold

My deepest condolences to Buncy’s family and friends. I hope I am not telling tales out of school but I attended Victoria High school with Buncy and on occasion he would “borrow” his Father’s wood delivery dump truck and park it just outside Royal Athletic Park and raise the dump portion so that his friends, (including myself) could sit up on the raised portion and watch our favorite ball team “The Victoria Athletics” play ball. This was much appreciated by the teen watchers. I lost track of Buncy as I moved away with the services to Nova Scotia. Very sorry that I never made contact again to relate old memories. Many thanks for the wonderful memories Buncy.

  • Frank Leonard

Our Leonard family sends condolences to the Sangha family – Buncy, or Mr Sangha as I called him, and your family businesses were loyal customers of our family tire business and we truly appreciated it. As I went on to the public life, once again I appreciated the support.

Our region benefited from Mr Sangha’s business acumen and determination – his father would be proud of all that was accomplished. As the next generations continue, they too can be proud of such a legendary leader.
