Harold succumbed peacefully at the Victoria General Hospital on January 30, 2009 after suffering a stroke at home. Dad was born in Victoria on April 11, 1907 to a pioneer family. He is survived by his devoted wife of 71 years, Audrey; loving children Ian (Carol) and Pam (Monty); grandchildren John (Shaunna), Kari-Anne (Gordon), Heidi (Tim) & Erik and six great grandchildren, one niece and one nephew. Predeceased by brother Stanley and sisters Marjorie, Kathleen and Mary. Harold started at the age of 19 in his father’s business, Arthur E. Haynes Limited, Real Estate & Insurance. He and brother Stanley took the business over in 1936 following the death of their Father and ran it successfully for forty years. He retired in 1977 as a Notary Public when the firm closed. Dad’s passion was golf. He started as a member of the Victoria Golf Club at the age of seventeen and concluded, after fifty years, as an active member of Uplands Golf Club at the age of ninety-seven. Any travel Mum and Dad did included their golfing equipment. You will be lovingly remembered and in our hearts forever.

A memorial service will be held at McCALL BROS. FLORAL CHAPEL, Johnson and Vancouver Streets, on Saturday, February 7, 2009 at 2:00 p.m. with a reception to follow in the McCall’s Family Centre. We would like to thank the doctors and staff of the Neuro/Science Section at Victoria General Hospital. Flowers gratefully declined. Donations to the charity of your choice.

  • Kyle Giesbrecht

Hello, my name is Kyle Giesbrecht. I bought an old car last year and in the car I found a Dodge Certicard (for warranty work) that had the car’s VIN number. It showed the car belonged to “Arthur E Haynes LTD” “39 Fort St” “Victoria BC”.

When I searched google for Arthur E Haynes LTD I came upon this obituary. My condolences. Feel free to contact me if you’re interested to see the car and the Certicard.

  • Trudie (Niven) Carrier

Hello Mrs. Haynes, Ian, Pamela and families: You may not remember me but I was Trudie Niven and lived with my parents, Bob and Dorothy and brother David at 1660 Monterey. I remember you and Mr. Haynes well and your house next to the Lawtons. I was very sorry to learn of Mr. Haynes passing. He lived a good, long life like my Dad, who was born in 1906 and passed away in 2007 at 101. Mom passed away in 1996. So many changes but lovely fond memories. Just wanted you to know I am thinking of you at this sad time for your family.
