Passed away in Victoria, B.C. Harry was one of seven children whose parents brought the family to Canada to escape the devastation in his homeland following World War I. He was a loving son, husband, father and grandfather. His passions were music, health and fitness. He was proud of his second place in the 1930 Okanagan Music Festival and the medal he won in the 1946 six mile run, the third fastest man in Canada at the time.

He is a lifetime member in a fitness club and was featured in a TV commercial for the club.

He loved nature and Victoria and showed this by composing a poem about the beauty of his adopted city, a city he called home first in the late 1930’s and the 1940’s. He was also proud of the city he felt was his Canadian hometown, Armstrong. Harry, his first wife Rosalie and son Victor moved there in 1961 and operated the Golden Gate Café, but Victoria called him and he moved here for a second time in 1964. Work forced him to move to Vancouver where he married Hilde after the untimely death of Rosalie in 1967. When Hilde passed away suddenly in 2002, he moved back to Victoria, where he lived independently at the Camelot to be near his son and family who were then residing in Victoria. He will be greatly missed by his loving family and those who knew him.

A celebration of his life will be held on November 20 at 2:30 pm at The Camelot, 455 Kingston Street, Victoria. Condolences may be offered to the family below.

We are very sad to hear of Uncle Harry’s passing. I remember him as an intelligent, kind, and gracious man, who together with his wife Hilde, opened his home to me when I moved to Burnaby to attend BCIT in the 1980’s, and introduced me to yoga and whole wheat pancakes with freshly ground flour! A wonderful man, who will not be forgotten. Our most sincere sympathies to Victor, Joan and family.

My deepest sympathy to Victor, Joan and all your family, and to my mum, Marlene, who I know is also feeling very saddened by the loss of this very special uncle. I treasure fond memories of, among other things, living with “Uncle Harry and Aunt Hilde” in Burnaby for a time, as a young person, and of their light-hearted but deep integrity and kindness.
He will surely be missed but very much remembered.
    Sincerely,
    Leslie
