Hazel died peacefully in hospice, after a sudden cancer diagnosis, on Saturday March 22, 2025 in Victoria. She was born January 23, 1942 in Moose Jaw, Saskatchewan.
Hazel is survived by her husband William (Bill), her children Heather and Nicole, and grandchildren Leif and Alton, as well as her sister Ardie. She will be so missed by many other relatives and friends.
Hazel was the youngest of five siblings and grew up in Cranbrook BC, then Salmon Arm and moved to Victoria after high school to pursue nursing where she graduated from Royal Jubilee Hospital. Here she met her husband Bill while ice skating at Esquimalt Arena. They were married April 17, 1965 in Salmon Arm and would have celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary in April this year. When their daughters were school aged, they moved to England for four years for Bill’s work. After returning to Victoria and when the daughters were grown, Hazel returned to the health care field as an administrator for a doctor’s office and later as a foot care nurse until she retired. Hazel and Bill lived by Prospect Lake for over 30 years where they were actively involved with the community association as well as Hazel with her church.
After retirement, Hazel and Bill continued to enjoy travelling, walking and remained active in the community. Hazel had many creative skills and enjoyed baking, entertaining, sewing, gardening and word puzzles, although her greatest pleasure was spending time with her grandchildren, family and friends. She was so loved by all that her house would be literally filled with flowers and cards every birthday and special occasion.
Hazel – wife, mother, auntie, grandmother and friend, you will be so missed by all and will be forever loved and remembered.
There will be no service at Hazel’s request.
Condolences may be offered to the family below.

Joyce Hannett Bill and family, I am so sorry to hear of Hazel’s passing. Hazel and I met when she was four years-old and I was six in Cranbrook. For 80 years we shared many of our birthdays because they were only one day apart. We made many wonderful memories over the years together. I enjoyed many weekend visits to the island and especially visiting the family when they were living in England. My heart goes out to Bill, Heather, Nicole, Leif and Alton at this very difficult time.

Joy Kruger I’m so sorry to hear Hazel is gone, Bill, my sincere condolences. I will always remember Hazel’s warmth. She made everyone feel welcome at our Prospect Lake Hall fitness classes. She had delightful positive energy that she shared during and outside of class in the social get-togethers we had after our workouts, and beyond — whether it was a music show or a party or quieter tea at your home as we had two years ago. Those memories will stay with me and I’m grateful to have met her. Wishing you and your family strength and love as your carry your grief and memories,
Joy
