It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of our dear. beloved mother Heather May MacGregor (nee Rogers) on June 12, 2025.
Mum was born November 25, 1936, in Nelson, BC, to John Cecil Ingram Rogers and Mirrie Campbell Rogers (nee Gould). She was the 3rd of 5 siblings. Mum was predeceased by her parents and her sisters Dorothy Bennett and Babs (Barbara) Glover. She is survived by sister Sheila Harrison and brother Patrick Rogers.
Mum loved growing up in Nelson, first at Shirley Ranch on Granite Road where they had cows and chickens, and she and her siblings played in the woods and learned to swim in Kootenay Lake; and then, in town in the neighbourhood of Fairview. She never wanted their family summers at Kootenay Bay to end but also loved the winters with lots of snow, when her father would build them snow tunnels and they would slide off the garage roof into the snow.
In 1952, her father, who was a draftsman with BC Forestry, received a promotion and transfer to Victoria. Mum was very reluctant to leave Nelson and her good, life-long friends but she soon made more life-long friends in Victoria while attending Oak Bay High School and Victoria College (now UVic).
While attending high school and college she worked summers for the Forestry Branch in the Parliament Buildings, then after graduating she worked at CKDA and for the CPR, in the Steamship Building on Belleville Street. Once she had children, she was a stay-at-home mum until her daughters were in their teens, when she returned to work for the Ministry of Children and Families, where she worked until retirement in 1997.
Mum always had a passion for the outdoors and nature. She loved swimming, hiking, cycling, skiing, boating, camping, exploring, travelling, birding and elephants. She truly enjoyed the nature in her yard in Oak Bay including families of deer, hummingbirds, owls, squirrels, etc. We spent many summers camping throughout BC. Mum’s first international trip was to Greece with high school friend Mary in 1987. Since then, she travelled to many countries in Europe, the UK, Hawaii, Eastern Canada, and Mexico with her daughters, sons-in-law and grandchildren.
Mum/Grammie was loving, kind, funny, sarcastic, strong and very stubborn. She will be sorely missed by daughters Laurie (Oscar), Lynne, Marie (Gary), grandchildren Leigh (Julian), Zak (Emily), Jess (Matt), and her beloved great-granddaughter Rosie May.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Alzheimer’s Society of BC, or any charitable organization of choice – Mum was a supporter of many.
Condolences may be offered to the family below.

Arnie Campbell Hi: I met your mom in the late 1970s when she came to work as a temporary clerk at the Vic West Social Services office. We were so impressed with her work and how well she fit into our sometimes very difficult environment that we recommended she be hired to fill a vacancy. One of my memories is when we all went to Esquimalt Lagoon for an office BBQ; no one brought a cork screw. Your mom showed us how to open a bottle of wine by slowly tapping the bottom to force the cork to ease out! I still share that important piece of knowledge with uninformed others. May you hold may good memories, too. Regards. Arnie Campbell

Scott Jackson So sorry to hear that Aunty Heather has passed, such a great lady, always treated us like family and she honestly felt like family to me, so many great memories. It was really nice to know she and mum were such great friends literally right up until the end for mum. It was really nice to see her supporting mum at the hospital in her final days. I know mum was really happy that aunty heather was there for her. I hope they are now once again walking to their favorite coffee shop together to catch up on all the gossip lol. My thoughts are with you all during this trying time. Thank you all for being such great family/friends to our family, miss you all, Scott Jackson.

My condolences to Heather’s family. I worked at the Esquimalt Income Assistance/Child Services office starting in 1977 at 22 yrs old and met Heather who worked at the Vic West office. We communicated a lot through work, and Heather was so lovely, kind and such a beauty. I would run into your mother randomly through the years and she never changed.
I’m sorry to read of Heather’s passing but she sure led a wonderful life and please find comfort in all your beautiful memories.
