Passed away in Nanaimo Regional General Hospital on September 22, 2011. Born in Redevers, SK on October 3, 1920. Predeceased by her parents, John and Mary; sister, Myrtle; brothers, Douglas and Rodney and great granddaughter, Nicole. Helen is lovingly remembered by her husband of 60 years, Richard “Dick;” daughter, Carol (Ron); sons, Clay and Rodney (Cindy); five granddaughters, Colleen, Karolyn, Lisa, Rhonda and Molly; three grandsons, Jesse, Cody and Kohl; 13 great-grandchildren and 1 great-great-granddaughter, as well as her extended family.

Helen received the Governor General’s Award for Scholastic Achievement for the Province of Manitoba in 1937. She was always proud of her award and her family called it Mom’s Big Penny.

Family and friends may pay their respects at McCALL’S FLORAL CHAPEL, Johnson and Vancouver Streets on Friday, September 30, 2011 from 11:00 am to 12 noon. A service to celebrate her life will follow at 12 noon. A reception will take place in McCall’s Family Centre prior to the burial.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Helen’s name to the charity of one’s choice.
