December 27, 1925 – August 22, 2012

“Harry” passed suddenly at the age of 86 following a brief illness in Vancouver General Hospital. Predeceased by his Father Henry Sr., Mother Maggie, and older sister Margaret. Survived by his wife of 61 years, Aileen; his brothers Bill (Louise), Chris (Patsy), and sister Rosemary (Randy, d.); and his four children, Bob (Janice) of Calgary, AB; Tom (Colleen, d.) of Calgary, AB; Laurien (Jeff) of Terrace, BC; Roy (Kari) of Sooke, BC. Also his grandchildren Jeanette, Gina, Nicole, Dillan, Melissa, Adrian, Eric, Scott, and great-grandchildren Brianna, Victoria, and Shelby.

Harry spent his entire life living in Victoria, B.C. and was a treasure of information about its past. He worked at the HMCS Dockyard as a machinist for 34 years before retiring at the age of 61. He looked back fondly at the friends he made there, many of whom passed before him. His dry sense of humour will be missed at family gatherings.

A Memorial Service will be held at McCALL BROS. FLORAL CHAPEL (Johnson at Vancouver St.) on Friday, August 31, 2012 at 2:30 p.m. with a reception to follow in the McCALL’S FAMILY CENTRE.

In lieu of flowers, please donate to BC Children’s oncology ward (www.bcchildrens.ca/Services/OncHemBMT/Donating.htm).

Rest in peace until we meet again.

I first met Harry over 40 years ago when I was a machinist apprentice at HMC Dockayrd at CFB Esquimalt. Harry always had a 12″ steel rule sticking out of his back pants pocket as he scurried around the shop all day setting up each job. I have a lot of fond memories of Harry – very much an ‘old school’ mentor who treated me well and did his best to past on all he knew about his craft to me.
I discoverd years later that my father, Charles Watson who passed away in October 2009, knew Harry I believe from attending school together.
I know that Harry will be missed. My condolences to his family and friends.
