It is with great sadness that we share the peaceful passing of Minca Smaak-Peeters at the age of 95 years last Sunday October 4th, 2026 at Amica Jubilee House in Victoria, B.C. Her grandson Roger Luykx was at her side. Minca was a loving and caring wife, mother, grandmother great grandmother and cherished her many friends. Minca was preceded in death by her husband Tom Smaak on June 28th, 2026. They were married for 73 years and were inseparable as they worked, travelled and lived their Catholic faith together. Minca is survived by her daughters Monica Smaak (Christopher), Justa Kendall (Simon), Hildemarie Ladouceur (Alex), Julia Giuriato (Bill), and son John Smaak (Virginie). She was the grandmother to Graham, Spencer and Elliot (Charlotte), Lauren (Rob), Ryan (Lucy), and Sophia (Robin), Sandra-Mae (Alan) and Roger, Mia (Caleb) and Nico (Kiersten), and Valentine (Taylor). She was the great grandmother to11 great grandchildren.

Minca was born in 1930 in Arnhem (The Netherlands), and devoted most of her life to her children and family. Once the children were in school full time she joined Tom in his textile business and did the book keeping. In 1977 the family moved to Canada where a new life awaited them in Calgary, Alberta. In their later years they made one final move to Victoria, B.C. where they spent 7 beautiful years at the Carlton House Residence. When Tom needed more care he moved to Amica Jubilee House and Minca joined him three months later as she could not imagine being away from him.

Minca will always be remembered for her strong personality and keen interest in sports, current affairs and all things new. She was young minded, energetic and always positive.
