April 22, 1921 May 10, 2010
Irene died peacefully in Victoria and was predeceased by husband Art, in 2008. She is survived and lovingly remembered by sons Art (Alana), Kelly (James), and Mark (Joanne). Irene was a proud grandmother to Kevin and Ben (Ashley) and greatgrandmother (GG), to Ava and McKinley. Irene, the youngest of three children, was born and raised in Lethbridge, Alberta. She met Art while he was stationed at Fort McLeod and they were married July 31, 1942. In 1963, the family settled in Victoria and Irene began her long career in community volunteer work. She volunteered for the Royal Jubilee Hospital Auxiliary and was instrumental in the establishment of Abbeyfield St. Peter’s, a special seniors’ housing project that opened in October, 1989. For many years, Irene served as the Chairperson of the House Committee at Abbeyfield. Irene unselfishly dedicated thousands of hours to her beloved parish of St. Peter’s as a key member of the Ladies Evening Guild and the Craft Guild, for over forty-seven years. Irene loved to be with people; we will all remember her warmth, laughter and kindness. She did many small things that made a big difference. She dedicated her life to her family, her friends, her church. Family and friends are invited to a memorial service to celebrate Irene’s life at 2:30pm on Saturday, May 15 at St. Peter’s Anglican Church, 3939 St. Peter’s Road. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to St. Peter’s Anglican Church in Irene’s name.
