It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved father, James Edward Cunningham on September 1, 2012 at Royal Jubilee Hospital after a brief illness. Born in Glasgow, Scotland October 6, 1923. He will be greatly missed by his wife of almost 61 years, Margaret; daughter, Brenda Garnham (Peter); son, Graeme (Monique); grandsons, David (Kelsy) and Jason and great-grandson, Lochlan. Dad immigrated to Victoria with his wife and family in 1956 to fulfill his position with the Canadian Navy as Marine Engineer, Command, which he enjoyed for 32 years. Dad was an avid golfer and tennis player, always full of life and joy, eager to learn new things and eager to be a part of everything. Donations may be made to the charity of your choice.

“I Am With You”

I give you this one thought to keep

I am with you still – do not weep.

I am a thousand winds that blow.

I am the diamond glints on snow.

I am the sunlight on ripened grain.

I am the gentle autumn’s rain.

When you awaken in the morning hush,

I am the swift uplifting rush

Of quiet birds in circled flight.

I am the soft stars that shine at night.

Do not think of me as gone –

I am with you still – in each new dawn.

Condolences may be offered to the family below.

  • Graeme Edward Cunningham

To my dad, a great friend and true gentleman. He was a fantastic tennis player who taught my mother, my sister and me to this game. He, my mother Margaret and my sister Brenda emmigrated from Glasgow, Scotland in 1956 to fulfill a naval engineering postion with the Royal Canadian Navy in Victoria, British Columbia, Canada. I, his son Graeme, was born in Victoria the following year. A soft-spoken humourist, he had a professional air about him. He was a very intelligent, well-spoken and polite man, who never spoke a bad word. Both he and my mother were a very loving couple who taught both my sister and me to be all that we could be. Dad made friends easily. A true professional, he excelled at his position and was deeply respected.

We shall greatly miss him for his love, his friendship, his humour and for taking care of us.

THANK YOU, DAD !!! WE shall truly miss you……………….
