It is with profound sadness that we bid a fond farewell to our cherished husband, father, grandfather and friend, Jim Kane. Jim passed away at home surrounded by family and friends. Born in Dublin, Ireland, Jim served as a paratrooper in World War 2 for Great Britain. Following the war, he left Great Britain for Australia where he spent 30 productive and happy years. In 1974 he immigrated to Canada, spending 5 years in Edmonton before moving to British Columbia. He met and married his beloved wife, Sylvia, in 1980. They settled in Victoria in 1989. Jim was a loving stepfather to Virginia MacCarthy (Parker) and Dr. Paul Castner, grandfather to Cameron (Corinne) and Alexandra MacCarthy and Jennifer and Kathleen Castner who adored him and with whom he had a special warm and loving relationship. He is also survived by his children in Australia and Edmonton, Christine Taylor (Graham), Melva Johnson, Debbie Glazin (Earl), and Malcolm Kane (Heidi) and all their children.
Prayers will be offered at McCall’s Funeral Home, Johnson and Vancouver Street, on Tuesday, April 2, 2013 at 7:00 pm. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at St. Andrew’s Cathedral, Blanshard and View Street, on Wednesday, April 3, 2013 at 10:00 am. A reception will be held immediately following the service. Condolences may be offered to the family below.
