August 11, 1954 – September 28, 2013

The world has lost a gentle, beautiful and very special angel.

It is with great sadness we announce the sudden passing of Janine Mary Collins in Victoria, BC in her family home.

Jan, as she was known, was predeceased by her Mother, Winifrede Collins who passed at the age of 92 years old, just two short years ago. She leaves to cherish her memory, her Father, Kenneth Collins; her two sisters, Fran (Richard) Nowakowski, and Chris Collins; her two children, Sasha and Cody and her Grandson, Brandon.

Jan was born in England in 1954. The family moved to Edmonton, and then to Calgary, Alberta when she was a young girl where she enjoyed the snowy winters and her love of animals first started. She spent many weekends horseback riding and walking her beloved dog Tessie. In 1969 they moved to Victoria, BC where her Father bought a beautiful home on Mount Tolmie for the family to grow up in, enjoy and create memories in. Although Jan lived in many other places in her life, her parents’ home was always dear to her. The last 8 months of her life were spent there in companionship with her Father Ken.

For many years, Jan struggled with various challenges including her health. This led her to find solace in the Lord 20 years ago. She found support, healing, and comfort in the Church and in God which she, as we all do, desperately needed. This was a turning point for Jan, who was looking forward to a renewed health and spirit. From then on Jan became an angel for the Lord. She loved to dance and worship and praise him. This is where her heart was. This is where she was most herself – praising God. Her family takes comfort knowing she is now dancing in heaven.

A funeral service and celebration of Jan’s life will be held on Saturday, October 5 at 1:00 p.m. at New Life Community Fellowship Church in Victoria, British Columbia (3900 Carey Avenue) with a reception to follow. In lieu of flowers, the family would appreciate donations to the Vancouver Island Dogs Rescue Society, Victoria B.C. (http://www.islanddogsrescue.com) in memory of Jan. Condolences may be offered to the family below.
