It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Jimmy Norman Oslund, lovingly known as Jim, on July 27, 2026, at the age of 81.
Jim was a humble, unassuming, and selfless man whose quiet strength, unwavering integrity, and loyal heart left a lasting impression on everyone who knew him. He never sought recognition or attention, preferring instead to support those around him with kindness, dependability, and a gentle sense of humor. His steady presence brought comfort and reassurance to family, friends, and colleagues alike.
Above all else, Jim was devoted to his beloved wife, Joyce. Their enduring marriage was the foundation of his life and a testament to their deep love and commitment. Together they built a home filled with warmth, family, and unwavering support. Though never one for grand gestures, Jim created a cherished tradition that perfectly reflected his character. On birthdays and special occasions, he would present Joyce and his daughters with a single rose. Thoughtful, simple, and heartfelt, it symbolized the quiet yet profound love he carried for those closest to him.
Jim was a proud and loving father to Jody Pavesic (Mark) and Kim Oslund (Jon). He took immense pride in his grandchildren, Kodi, Kelsey, Ryland, and Grady, cherishing every opportunity to spend time with them, celebrate their accomplishments, and create lasting memories together.
Born in October 1944, to Norman and Marjorie Oslund, Jim was one of six siblings and valued family throughout his life. He was predeceased by his parents and his sister, Debbie. He is survived by his brothers, Neil and Keith; his sisters, Charlotte and Joan. He will also be fondly remembered by his many nieces, nephews, extended family members, and dear friends.
Jim shared an especially close bond with Percy Sutton and Arnold Thompson, whom he proudly referred to as his “brothers from another mother.” Their friendship spanned decades and was built on loyalty, laughter, mutual respect, and countless treasured memories.
A Chartered Professional Accountant by profession, Jim found joy in life’s simple pleasures. He loved golfing, treasured time spent at the lake, enjoyed curling and playing guitar, and took pride in both his cars and his enthusiasm for the latest technology. Throughout his career, he worked for Silverwood’s Dairy, Island Farms, and later BC Transit, where he retired after many years of dedicated service.
Jim measured success not by achievements or accolades, but by family, friendship, loyalty, and love. His quiet support, steady presence, and genuine kindness enriched the lives of those around him and will be deeply missed.
Since Jim’s passing, our family has experienced a series of remarkable encounters with ravens. It began with a vision, followed by a painting. During a visit, Uncle Neil unknowingly stayed at a place called The Raven’s Nest. On trips to Lake Cowichan, ravens flew alongside us, and their familiar morning calls greeted us outside the trailer. Time and again, they have appeared at just the right moments, bringing comfort and reminding us of Dad.
For a family with Norwegian roots, the raven holds special meaning. In Norse tradition, it symbolizes wisdom, memory, guidance, and the connection between worlds. Whether coincidence or something more, these encounters have led us to believe that a part of Jim lives on in the spirit of the raven. We find peace in imagining him surrounded by the beauty of nature he so enjoyed. Whenever a raven appears nearby, we cannot help but smile and think of Dad.
The values Jim lived by, honesty, humility, hard work, loyalty, and love, will continue through the generations that follow him. His legacy is not found in grand accomplishments, but in the countless lives he touched through his kindness, devotion, and quiet example.
He will be dearly missed, lovingly remembered, and forever held in our hearts.

A Celebration of Jim’s Life will be held on Tuesday, August 25, 2026, at 2:00 p.m. in the Sequoia Centre at McCall Gardens, 4665 Falaise Drive, Victoria, BC.
