March 19, 1935 – May 10, 2009

“In loving memory of a beautiful wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, sister, aunt and friend. We will miss you and love you forever.”

Joan was born in Waterford, Ireland. She is survived by her loving husband of 55 years, Bryan; daughters, Teri (Bill Runions), Frances (Ted Anderson); sons, Bryan and Sean; sisters, Kathleen, Mary and Bridget; brothers, Thomas and David; grandchildren, David, Andrew, Daniel, Kate, Clayton and Jeffrey; great grandson, Ayden and many extended family and friends.

As a girl, she was Joanie Mac, a lovely
Irish lass.
She was wed, gave birth, and travelled
afar, in the time that came to pass.
Over the years, through all the ups and
downs, our mama was always there.
With a gentle heart and a hand to hold,
she never ceased to care.

She gave us all the gift of life. She was
the heart of our family.
That she should pass on Mother’s Day
was a blessing from the Powers that be.
We love you mom, but you’re still here,
though your body is finally at rest.
On Mother’s Day, this special day, you,
Mother, were the best.

A Memorial Gathering will be held at the Royal Canadian Legion Trafalgar/Pro Patria Branch #292, 411 Gorge Road East on Wednesday, May 13, 2009 from 3:00 pm to 7:00 pm. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Alzheimer Society of BC, #300 – 828 West 8th Avenue, Vancouver, BC V5Z 1E2.

  • Kenny McLawrence.

My condolences to your family. I was researching our family name when I came across this obituary. I believe my father was a cousin of joanie. My father William was a little younger than joanie. He was born in 1950 and died in 1990. I remember when I was young he told me of cousins living in Canada. Some of them visited from time to time and were similar in age to him. These may have been joanies kids. Hope your all well.

This is to express our sadness at hearing of Sean’s Mum’s passing. We had met and enjoyed her company on several occasions when we resided in Victoria.

  • Damien McLawrence

I have great and fond memories of Joannie when she used to come and visit us in Ireland.

My prays and thoughts go to Joannie and her family.

I was deeply saddened to hear of Joan’s passing. She was truly a wonderful lady. My mother Letty was so fond of Joan and was always glad that they were great friends for so many years. She always talks about the good times that they shared. It was nice that Bryan and Joan were able to visit us last year. We really enjoyed their visit and will treasure that time always. Our thoughts and prayers are with you. She will be greatly missed!

    Love,

    Janice and family
