October 26th, 1944 – November 6th, 2012
It is with tremendous sorrow we announce the passing of Marilyn Joan Rybchuk. She was a mother, grandmother and an inspiration to many. Mom was born in Winnipeg, Manitoba on October 26th, 1944 and is survived by her children, Colin (Wright), Cheryl (Tyler Hadfield), Mark (Rybchuk); husband, Mike; sisters, Jacquie (Paul Reinprecht), Sandi (Frank Olson) and brother, Dennis (Pat Shute). One of the biggest loves of mom’s life was her grandchildren, Matthew, Ashlyn and Georgia, who will remember their grandma always.
She began a career of nearly 40 years in healthcare by graduating in nursing in Toronto and took her first job in Manitoulin Island, Ontario. She would later move to Calgary caring for the elderly at the facilities: Dr. Vernon Fanning Centre, Holy Cross Centre and The Bethany Care Centre. Mom received her master’s degree of Health Services Administration from Central Michigan University. She then lived with her loving family on Vancouver Island for nearly the last 20 years; working first as an administrator at Juan de Fuca Hospitals (later Vancouver Island Health Authority) and VIHA hospitals in Parksville and Qualicum Beach. After a brief stint of retirement she came back to run the facility of Cerwydden Care Centre in Duncan, British Columbia as executive administrator for 3 years.
Marilyn Joan Rybchuk will be remembered as a respected leader and compassionate friend by those she touched in her career. She passed away last Tuesday evening surrounded by her family at her bedside in a goodbye filled with emotion, heartache and so much love. She will be missed and loved by her family and friends, always.
Visitation for family and friends will be held at McCall Bros. on Wednesday, November 14, 2012 from 6:30 pm – 8:30 pm. A Memorial Service will be held in MCCALL BROS. FLORAL CHAPEL, Johnson & Vancouver Streets on Friday, November 16, 2012 at 1:00 pm. Reception to follow in McCall’s Family Centre.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Brain Injury Association – Victoria Branch (830 Pembroke St. Units D&E, V8T 1H9. Charitable # 122452121 RR0001, http://vbis.ca/donate-now-0), or the Michael J. Fox Foundation (https://www.michaeljfox.org/).
