Jog Raj Jaswal, age 79, passed away peacefully at home surrounded by his family in Victoria, BC after a long courageous battle with cancer.

Jog was born in Bham, Punjab, India on July 15, 1938 and was one of 5 children. In 1955, he left India at the age of 17, ending up on Vancouver Island.  He married Tarseal Sheila Dodd in 1961 in Punjab, India and settled in the Western Communities.   Together they journeyed into a distinguished career in lumber sales – he started with door to door sales and eventually, owning and operating Jaswal Lumber in Langford for 4 decades. Jog was well respected in the construction industry and will be remembered by countless loyal customers earning the respect and admiration of all those he encountered along the way. Upon retirement from Jaswal Lumber, Jog embarked on many successful projects as a real estate developer.

He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Sheila; daughters, Lata (Brad), Meena (Bob), and Cindy (Paul). Jog was immensely proud of his six grandchildren, Brandon, Krianna, Tyler, Cory, Oliver, and Henry.

He is also survived by his sister, Surjeet Kaur (late Sucha Singh); brothers, Sodhi Ram (Usha), and Ajaib Singh (Gian) and their children.

Jog and Sheila enjoyed their extended families, both the Jaswals and the Dodds.  After family, one of Jog and Sheila’s greatest pleasures in life was travelling around the world with family and friends. Jog will be lovingly and fondly remembered by all that knew him.

The family would like to thank Jog’s family doctor, Dr. Christie, and the oncologists, Dr. Saltman, Dr. Sulpher, and Dr. Jo. We are also grateful to the Palliative Care from Community Health (district 60) and Beacon Services.

A Celebration of Jog’s Life will be held at McCall’s Gardens at 4665 Falaise Drive on Saturday, February 3, 2018 at 11:00 am.  Followed by prayers and lunch at the Sikh Temple, 1210 Topaz Avenue.
