It is with deep sadness and heavy hearts, we announce the passing of our beloved father, opi, brother, uncle and friend. Johann was predeceased by his wife, Elizabeth in 2012 and is survived by his son, Fred; daughter, Loretta; grandchildren, Nicole and John; brothers, Georg, Matthaus and Konrad and nephews, Arnold (Linda) and Tony (Elizabeth). Johann dreamed of coming to Canada and arrived in Victoria in 1952. He was soon joined by his darling Elizabeth and brothers Georg and Matthaus along with their spouses, Margarete and Betty. Johann was a truly wonderful person. He was hard working, generous, caring and very thankful. He was a baker and business owner and kept active until his health declined in 2012. In his younger years, he enjoyed wrestling, judo, hunting and fishing. In his retirement years, he enjoyed gardening, chopping wood and singing in the Edelweiss choir. He loved music and was an avid reader from a young age and always had a good story to tell. Just being around Johann was a great comfort to his family due to his good nature and kind spirit. The family would like to thank Dr. Rosenberg, Dr. Fairhurst, Elaine and the VIHA community nurses who helped Johann remain in his home until the final few days of his life when he was in Victoria Hospice where he was treated with such compassion and kindness by the medical staff and volunteers.
A Funeral Mass will be held at St. Joseph the Worker Parish, 753 Burnside Road West, on Thursday, August 22 at 11:00 a.m. with interment to follow at Royal Oak Burial Park. In lieu of flowers, donations to the Victoria Hospice Foundation or the Heart and Stroke Foundation of B.C. would be appreciated. Condolences may be offered to the family below.
