April 9, 1920 – November 11, 2012

Born in Victoria on April 9, 1920, Jack died peacefully and fittingly on November 11, 2012 at the age of 92. He was a proud Veteran of WWII and the Korean War RAF.

He is survived by his stepchildren, Denise (Gordon) Ashmore, Marnie (Bill) Penny, Carl (Dee) Ovcharick; nephew, Larry Robbins and niece, Margo Houston, along with 6 grandchildren and 5 great-grandchildren. He was predeceased by the love of his life, Doreen Ovcharick in 2011.

Jack retired from the Highway’s Department in 1983 and enjoyed fishing, prawning and golf. Doreen and Jack spent many winters in Phoenix, Arizona but Jack’s greatest joys were family and friends and the odd joke or two.

Our special thanks to the E.R. Nurses of Saanich Peninsula Hospital and special friends, Larry (Elaine), Ben (Jackie), John (Ellen), Ardo (Jan), Chris, his “Committee Members” and the Ardmore neighbours.

A Celebration of Jack’s Life will be held at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, donations to Saanich Peninsula Hospital, 2166 Mt. Newton Cross Road. Victoria, BC V8M 2B2.

Condolences may be offered to the family below.

I was so sad to hear about Jack’s passing and my warmest condolences go out to you all at this time. Although I knew Jack for only a short time I could see he loved his family deeply and loved living at Ardmore with his prawning excursions in the summer, his green bean garden and everything had to be neat and tidy. I always found it fun finding equipment to use in the garden in his workshop, what an assortment of tools he had, I think he kept everything, never throwing anything out. His golf cart was a work of art, everything was there just where he needed it. I will miss Jack, we had some good chats and I enjoyed his sense of humour and the twinkle in his eye.
    My warmest thoughts.

Jacko taught me many things. . . mostly corny jokes. I will never forget that one-of-a-kind man – I feel blessed to have known him. My love to everyone.

When we relocated to Victoria in 1999, Jack & Dorreen graciously offered us to stay at their beautiful home while they were snow birding down south. We will fondly remember them for their kindness and great sense of humour.
