John passed away peacefully at Royal Jubilee Hospital during the early morning of March 16, 2016. Born in Beaverlodge Alberta, John worked briefly in the oil fields before enlisting in the Royal Canadian Navy. It was while he was stationed in Esquimalt that he met Joyce. They were married 6 months later in June 1956. After leaving the navy, John accomplished many more things in his life. He was with the Edmonton City Police, Corrections BC and was in the first graduating class of BC Deputy Sheriffs. During his retirement, he was a Walmart greeter. John was a proud Master Mason for over thirty years, most recently with Mount Shepherd Lodge, and enjoyed his time spent working with Job’s Daughters in Victoria. John was a friendly, generous man who loved life and easily made friends wherever he went. Anyone who met him liked him. Those who knew and loved him will miss those big bear hugs, his warm smile and the twinkle in his blue eyes.
John was predeceased by his granddaughter Krista. He is survived by his wife Joyce (nee Dalley), his children Dave (Joanne), Robert, Kathleen, his grandchildren John (Nova), J.D., Shaun, Sarah, Stacie (Chad), as well as many relatives and friends.
Thanks to the RJH ICU staff for their compassionate care during John’s time there.
