It is with love, sadness and gratitude for having him in our lives that we announce the passing of John Hardy Adlington on Wednesday, February 18th, 2026, in Victoria, British Columbia.
A wonderful friend, partner, stepfather and grandfather, dog lover, amateur astronomer and photographer, John was also proud owner of the Prime Time Video store, and Yo Video.
John will be lovingly missed by his family, Susan, Molly, Loren, Luen, Alida, Jesse, Kelsey, Emmett, Stella, Arlo, Robyn, and Jenn.
May he be free now to continue on this mysterious journey enveloped in the same love and care he so generously shared with others.
His family would like to extend a special thank you to the staff at Beckley Farm Lodge and Broadmead Care, for the exceptional care they provided John with over the last year.
If you wish to give something in his memory, please consider donating to the SPCA or your local Alzheimer’s Society.

Tara and Alastair Luke
Hello,
My husband (Alastair) and I (Tara) worked for John at Prime Time for a few years, around 1998. That’s actually the year we got married. We met working for John, and it’s at that video store that our relationship evolved into what we have today: a happy marriage of 28 years with 2 grown up, well adjusted, children. John was a good manager of people (and video stores!). He was always fair and real. Shortly after Alastair and I married, we moved to Calgary, where we are now. We did go back to visit John once, and he took us out on his boat. It was a fun day and super nice to reconnect. I so wish we had kept in touch. I think he would have liked that, and we would have as well.
It’s funny how I just woke up this morning thinking about John and wondering how he was. I couldn’t remember his last name so googled owner of Prime Time with simply, John. And up came his obituary. I recognized him immediately. We are sorry for your loss and very sad that he is gone, and that we lost our chance to reconnect with him. Alastair and I had such a good experience working for John at that store. We were there the year that huge snowstorm hit (1996) and the streets were impassable with about 4-5 feet of snow burying the cars. Because we lived close to the store, Alastair and I were able to dig down to the store’s door and actually open up that day and the next. And because no one could get to work or school, guess what everyone did? Rented videos! The shelves were literally empty – every single one – except for 2 super horrible movies. What a memory!
Anyway, hugs to all of you….John was a good man and we feel fortunate to have known him.
