John J. Lautermilch passed away peacefully at home surrounded by his loving family on the afternoon of Monday, June 6, 2016. John is survived by his wife, Annie; two daughters, Karen Lautermilch & David Carpenter (Oregon) and Lori Lautermilch (Victoria, BC) and one son, Doug & Pearl Lautermilch (Calgary, AB). John’s third daughter, Brenda Lautermilch passed away suddenly on January 29th, 2001 in Calgary.

John has four grandchildren, Jeremy Klein (son of Brenda Lautermilch); Jonathan (son of Doug & Pearl) & Chantal Lautermilch (Calgary, AB); Janell Lautermilch (Calgary, AB daughter of Doug & Pearl) and fiancée, Simon Rocheleau; and Ben Lautermilch (Calgary, AB, son of Doug & Pearl) and one great grandchild, Matteo Lautermilch (son of Jonathan & Chantal), along with numerous extended family and numerous close friendships developed over many years. John was predeceased by his father, John Lautermilch in 1967, his mother, Amelia Lautermilch in 1970 and seven brothers and three sisters. John has one sister, Elsie Engel that lives in Regina, Saskatchewan.

John and Annie were married on September 23, 1948 in Woodrow, Saskatchewan and were 3.5 months away from celebrating an amazing 68 years of marriage. John was born in a farming community in Woodrow, Saskatchewan on December 31, 1918. He attended a local country school until graduation and moved on to complete a teaching degree at Normal School in Moose Jaw. John loved the community and being raised on a farm.  Following a few years of teaching, he decided to be a farmer for his working life. In 1972, John began a new career with Saskatchewan Crop Insurance and was responsible for managing the Swift Current region.

John and Anne both enjoyed their lives in Swift Current but decided to move to Calgary, Alberta to retire. John was an adventurous soul and together with Annie they travelled to thirty seven countries and numerous cities around the world. John and Annie spent many warmer winters in California, Arizona and in Victoria. More recently, they moved back permanently to the irresistible warm climate and beautiful landscapes of Victoria.

Just got the news from Mom that Uncle Johnny passed away. She visited Dad in his new home in long term care and they reminisced about the old times and old friendships at Woodrow. Uncle Johnny was a really special guy and his wit and political curiosity made him fun to visit. I know I can speak for them in offering our sincerest sympathy to you, Aunt Anne and all of your family.
