Jac passed away peacefully on December 8, 2025, with his loving wife Trish by his side.

Jac is survived by his daughter Tania, sons Jason (Allison) and Josh. Grandchildren Shaun, Trinity, Lindsay, Isla and great-granddaughter Nova.

Jac Started his career in the pulp industry in Prince Rupert as the General Manager. He also attended Harvard and got his MBA in Executive Management. He then changed careers to the natural gas business. He was instrumental in bringing natural gas to Vancouver Island and the Sunshine Coast. By retirement, he was both President & CEO of Terasen Gas (now Fortis).

He also served many years as Chairman of the Board for Victoria Island Health Authority. It was during this time that the Patient Care Centre at Royal Jubilee Hospital was built & changed. In honour of Jac’s dedication to the project, his name is etched into the wall at the entrance.

Jac’s passions included golf (Uplands Golf Club) – he had 3 holes-in-ones! Fishing (trying to beat Trish’s 45 lb salmon). But I think his greatest passion was travelling. He and Trish travelled the world, often lugging their golf clubs.

It was a very sad Christmas without Jac, and he will be forever missed and forever loved by his family.

There will be a Memorial Service at a later date.

Condolences may be offered to the family below.

I was sorry to hear of the loss of Jac. I was a classmate of Jac’s at UBC. It was because of his encouragement that I joined Columbia Cellulose in Castlegar, along with him, when we graduated. Although our career paths soon diverged, from time to time we did cross paths. I went on to a very successful career in Pulp and Paper, which probably would not have happened if not for Jac.
I always enjoyed meeting with him at our reunions.

As a retired employee of Fortis/Terasen/Centra gas I must pass on the utmost respect and honour it was to work under the leadership of Jack. He was always approachable and cared deeply for his employees.

My deepest condolences to Trish and all the family.
A great man will be missed dearly.

    Sincerely
    Jeremy Barnatt
