With immense sorrow the McMillan family announce the passing of Joseph after a brief illness. He is survived by his loving wife of 55 years Cecilia, children Catherine (Dan), Bill (Doris), Joan, Monica and Lorraine (Dennis) and grandchildren Ryan, Alex, Victoria and Connor. Joe was born in Dauphin, Manitoba and raised in Winnipeg. He was a WWII veteran and also worked on the DEW Line (Distant Early Warning) in the Arctic and the Alcan project in Northern BC. A carpenter by trade, Joe also had a variety of interests including skiing, curling and golfing. He had a fun sense of humour and enjoyed a laugh with his family.
Funeral Mass will be held at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church, 2060 Haultain St., Victoria at 12 noon Friday, August 26, 2011. The family wishes to extend thanks to Dr. Ashmead, Dr. Unger and especially Dr. McGhie and his secretary Anna. Reception to follow at St. Patrick’s Church. We are so sorry to hear of Joe’s passing. He was Glenn’s roomate in the lodge when the mill first started in 1967 in Gold River. Our thoughts are with you all at this very sad time.
