Fernie passed away peacefully, and bravely at his choosing, in Victoria, BC on December 13, 2016 at the age of 90. He was predeceased by Claire Wells, his partner of 38 years. He is lovingly remembered by his daughter Lynn Duplessis of Victoria and his son Gene Duplessis (Jean) of Peterborough; granddaughters Deanna Duplessis (Chris McQuinn) of Toronto, Kate-Lynn Duplessis
(Chris Pulfer) and great grandchildren Maya and Owen of Ottawa; good friend and niece Irene Dickinson of Calgary.
Special thanks to Dr. Gilbert Chew for his years of expertise and compassionate care.
Fernie was a very industrious, hard-working and gentle man who took on many diverse business endeavors. He was an accomplished musician playing guitar, bass and keyboards and cut hair well into his 91st year. He loved gardening, fixing things and creating masterpieces in the kitchen. He relished his time playing with the dogs, Oso and
Kika. A veteran of WW2, his friendly face will be missed by all in the neighborhood.
Condolences may be offered to the family below.

Randy Guttormson Lynn, Gene and family: we are so sorry for the loss of your dad. I will miss reminiscing with Fernie about the fishing trips to Waterhen Lake Sask. In the early 60’s. Listening to Fernie and dad and my brother play their music. Our first dog, “Lady” given to us by Fernie. Gene and I caddying for our dads at Wildwood Golf course and all the fishing trips around Campbell River. He left this world as he lived in it, with dignity and class. I will think of him often…forever.

Zaneta St. Dennis Fernie was a big part of my life for three years during his friendship and care of my mum, Jean. Always ready with a cheery “hello”, encouragement and a box full of fruit and vegetables, he taught us much about how to live. He was generous and kind, patient and the truest gentleman to my mum. I loved him as did Jean and my daughter, Angelina. He was a caring, unique individual who inspired us all. May he rest in peace.
