Joseph, Jr. “Joe” “Joey” Iannarelli
December 13, 1941 – December 13, 2009

It is with great sadness that we announce the sudden passing of Joe Iannarelli, Jr. beloved son, nephew, father and grandfather. After a courageous battle with acute liver failure, Joey passed away with his daughters by his side on his 68th birthday, December 13th.

Joe was born in Schumacher, Ontario December 13, 1941. He is predeceased by his mother, Jean Marie Amelia Iannarelli and is survived by his father, Joseph, Sr.; daughters, Jocelyn (Manny) and Robyn (Shane); granddaughters, Brenna Marie and Marisa Jean.

Joe spent his younger years as a child in Northern Ontario and as a young man moved to Victoria, BC with his parents. In Victoria he will be fondly remembered for his time as a former member of the Esquimalt Pontiacs Hockey Club in the Esquimalt Friday Night League. In 1979, Joe had a young family and moved to Kitimat, BC, where he took the position as the Director of Recreation for the Municipality. He was due to retire this coming January after over 30 years of service.

Joe will be forever remembered for his care and time for others, and his contributions to the community in which he worked, loved and lived.

A Memorial Reception will be held in McCall Bros. Family Centre, Johnson and Vancouver Street, on Saturday, December 19th at 1:00 p.m. A Funeral Service will take place in Joe’s home community of Kitimat, BC at a later date.

Flowers are gratefully declined; tributes, if desired, may be made to the District of Kitimat (270 City Centre, Kitimat, BC, V8C 2H7) for the Joe Iannarelli Memorial Trust Account. This fund will be for children and youth in financial need to participate in organized sports and recreation in Kitimat.

Joe, I was both shocked and saddened to hear of Joey’s passing and extend my sincerest condolences to you and Joey’s family. Although I only knew you both for a couple of years you guys made a lasting impression on me and the community of Corner Brook as well. Whenever I have the opportunity to reminisce with friends about our good ole hockey days in Corner Brook, your and Joey’s names are fondly remembered. Joe, as one who feels my life was all the better from having known you and Joey I do hope that time and memories will help you and Joey’s family through the days ahead.

I was so shocked…I called and left a message on Robyns #… I am so glad that we all had dinner together and the kids got a chance to meet Joey and Uncle Joe to see why I have been so enamored with the whole Iannarelli family since I was a small child under my Aunts watchful eye and appreciated opinions which I loved to sit and listen to for hours, Joey was so much like Jean and my youngest daughter just fell in love with his gentle soul..I wish I could be there to help you have been on my mind everyday and for my Uncle Joe who I admire more than words can express I can’t imagine your grief it must be so hard. I know that Robyn and Jocelyn will be such a big help I believe they are wonderful girls.. Please call on me if you need to love Linda and Family

    Dear Joe and Family,

Please accept my most sincere sympathy. I only wish I could be there with you.

I was shocked and deeply saddened by the death of Joey who was in the family a son, a father, a grandfather and, to me a friend of more than 50 years beginning with his life in Corner Brook. I have always felt a part of your and Jean’s family,Joe, and through the years we have never lost touch. Joey and I rekindled our friendship over the last few years and he had become like a favourite brother to me.

We have lost an open, caring, non-judgemental , fine man who had yet so much to give and who loved life, his family, and his friends. He will be greatly missed by all of us.

The Memorial Trust in his name is a perfect tribute; it exemplifies his philosophy of inclusion.

We can be thankful for our memories of him.

John also sends his sincere sympathy.

    With my love,
    Sheilah

    To Joe Sr and family
We are so sorry to hear of the loss of your son. Our paths were certainly similar – with growing up in Northern Ontario (spent all my summers in Schumacher and meeting Bob when he played in North Bay (Trappers). Then imagine your family and ours ending up in Victoria. We have always enjoyed our visits with you and Jean(so sorry to also hear that Jean passed on recently)
Take care of yourself Joe and the daughters and grandaughters.
    Sincerely
    Marilyn and Bob Barlow
