Joyce was born in Twickenham, England on October 26th 1920. At an early age, she moved to Canada with her parents Jean Jules and Madeline Lennartz and sister, Georgette, living briefly in the prairies before growing up in Sidney and Victoria. Joyce attended Victoria College and began to study nursing. She soon left school, married and moved to Kingston, Ontario where she worked to support her husband, Albert while he studied medicine. They returned to Victoria four years later, remaining here except for nine especially-happy years on Pender Island. Joyce passed away peacefully on December 11th, 2013. She is survived by her loving husband of over 70 years, Dr. Albert Vey, with whom she lived, independently, until just a year ago. She is also survived by her devoted son, Fred (Hazel); grandchildren, Rupert and Emma and niece, Linda (Peter) Caverhill. Joyce was a strong, determined, kind and loving wife, mother, grandmother and friend. She will be so dearly missed by all who knew her. Her example of a life well-lived is as great as the void she leaves behind.

Dear Dr. Vey, I was saddened, but amazed too, to read of your wife’s passing and your continuation living in your own home. My mother Laurel Eby worked for you in James Bay in the mid 60’s and you were our family doctor. May you find some comfort knowing many of us have fond memories of you and your wife.

  • Barbara (Marquis) Haima

Dr. Vey, I am so sorry to read of your loss. I remember your wife with kindness as your office nurse. I was a young navy wife and you delivered all three of my children (1960, 1963, 1966) and you continued to look after us for many years afterward until we had to move away. Our most sincere condolences go out to you and your family at this sad time.

    Dear Dr. Vey and Fred
We were sorry to read of Joyce’s death. We remember her as a very kind lady , when we visited your office. We were walking past your house on Beach Dr. recently, and wondering where you all were.
Frank remembers Fred from his class at OakBay . I guess he must be close to retirement now!
We are greatgrandparents now, with most of the family within visiting distance. Still in pretty good health– walking groups twice a week.
Thank you for the care of our family in early days. Linda&Frank
