1925 – 2010
June died suddenly at home on November 6 of a heart attack. She leaves behind “Sandy,” her loving husband of 56 years, daughter Cate and granddaughter Hannah. She also leaves brother Mike (Liz), sister-in-law Jean, and numerous nieces and nephews in the U.K.
During World War II, June served in the WRNS at the Eastcote outstation of Bletchley Park, working on Enigma machines for Ultra intelligence. For many years, she “kept the secret.” Postwar, she worked for the BBC News Service. She came to Canada in 1954 to join her husband. A long-time resident of Ten Mile Point, she volunteered for many years at the G.W. Pearkes Clinic, working with children with Down Syndrome. June loved gardening and beach walking on Long Beach and the Oregon Coast. She will be remembered as a loving and giving friend, wife, mother and grandmother.
The family extends enormous gratitude for the exceptional kindness and generosity of the many friends and neighbours who enabled June to spend her final years at home.
A Funeral Service will be held on Friday, November 12, 2010 at 1:00 p.m. in St. George The Martyr Church in Cadboro Bay, 3909 St. George’s Lane with a reception to follow. Cremation.
Flowers gratefully declined. Memorial donations may be made to the Queen Alexandra Foundation for Children.

Leesa Fawcett Dear Cate, Mr. Sandilands & Hannah,
June Sandilands sounded like an exceptional woman and I am deeply sorry for the loss of her in your lives. I can imagine how she lives on in all of you.
A snippet of a poem for you Cate: ( M. Oliver)
maybe death
isn’t darkness, after all,
but so much light
wrapping itself around us–
as soft as feathers–.with love, leesa

Our condolences to Sandy, Cate and Hannah. Our thoughts are with you all.
