Lissen passed peacefully at Sidney All Care in Sidney, BC on February 24, 2026.

After a long goodbye she passed at the age of 85 years.

She leaves to cherish her memory-daughter Mette Lockwood (Victoria, BC), her sons Michael (Larissa) Lockwood (London, England), Martin (Beatrice) Lockwood (Paris, France) & Jonathan (Fadia) Connolly, (Greystones, Ireland). All her grandchildren-Leah, Jade, Elizabeth, Arthur, William, Sean, Eva & great-grandchildren Stella & Noa. Her brother Herman (Birte) Eckhardt (Denmark). Her niece Michala (Gunnar) Eckhardt (Denmark) & Morten (Louise) Blichfeldt-Eckhardt (Denmark)-their children Ida, Arthur & Sif. Also many extended family and friends around the world.

Lissen was pre-deceased by her beloved husband of 40 years-George Lockwood (June 13, 2002) and her sister Hanne Eckhardt (January 25, 2026-Denmark). She is also pre-deceased by her parents Ragnhild & Ahlmann Eckhardt (Winnipeg, Manitoba). After her husband George’s death in 2002, Lissen was fortunate to meet Sipke van der Meer and his extended family. They shared many happy years together until his death March 31, 2012 (Sidney, BC).

Lissen was born in Copenhagen, Denmark on January 25, 1941. She came to Canada May 1, 1958, and began her new life in Winnipeg, Manitoba at 17 years of age. Lissen and George were married in Morden, Manitoba in 1962. They raised their children in Winnipeg and spent their summers at the cottage at Victoria Beach, Manitoba. Lissen and George retired and moved to Sidney, BC in 1994.

Lissen loved people and enjoyed their company. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother & friend. She was a gifted artist, real-estate agent, knitter and social event organizer. Lissen loved the Opera, symphony, theatre, world traveller and enjoyed the summers at the cottage. She helped many organizations with her volunteering-the Red Coats (Victoria Airport), her church-Tuesday Soup Kitchen, St. Vincent de Paul, The Belfry & The Opera events.

Lissen had infinite energy, grace, strength, wisdom, a warm heart & radiant smile. Our precious mom will be in our hearts forever.

A Memorial Service will be held at St. Elizabeth Church, 10030 Third St, Sidney, BC, V8L 3B3 on Thursday, March 5 at 11 am.

Our sincere thanks to Dr. Syyong, doctor, nurses and staff at All Care for their wonderful support and excellent care for Lissen for the past 7 years.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Lissen’s memory to Alzheimer’s Society of BC, Scandinavian Cultural Centre, BC Heart Foundation or charity of your choice.
