After a 10 month struggle with leukemia Karen lost her battle and left us to join her father, Hugh. Karen is also predeceased by her niece Miranda; nephew, Wesley; Uncle, Art; sister-in-law, Charlene and George Friesen.
She leaves her devoted partner of 22 years, Al Bodiou; mother, Margaret; children, Quenton (Andrea) and Monica (Greg); brothers, Don (Michelle) and Gordie( Julie); nieces and nephews, Adam, Niomi, Robin, Christina and Angie; stepdaughter, Tricia (Mike); and granddaughters, Samantha, Vanessa, Rachel, Kristie and Rebecca; She is also survived by, John Danvers; and aunt, Mavis.
Born in North Battleford, SK, she quickly left to go overseas with her mom and dad. Her first 10 years were spent in England and abroad. While in England the family took holidays and trips, including the Stonehenge as indicated in the picture above. Later in life Karen expressed that the Stonehenge was her favourite of all places on earth. Upon returning to Canada, her family settled in Victoria (Belmont Park) where she attended elementary school followed by Vic High.
A long-time member of the Royal Canadian Legion, Prince Edward Branch #91, Karen will always be remembered as the lady who always had a smile and a kind word. As an employee of the Deli Department, Karen was loved and admired all by the staff at the Superstore.
A special thank you to the VGH Leukemia Clinic, Victoria Cancer Clinic, Hospice and Palliative Care Nurses; as well as Dr. Power and Dr. Bos. Also not to be forgotten are all the people that came out to the fundraiser to help Karen in such a difficult time. With a special mention to the deli workers at Superstore and various Legion members and friends, Don and Denise Voysey; Ron and Colleen Gunter; Lenora Peatt and Teresa Claus.
A celebration of Karen’s life will be held at The Royal Canadian Legion, Prince Edward Branch #91, 761 Station Ave on May 4, 2013 from 1-5 pm. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the BC Cancer Society.
