Today we say goodbye to Kathleen Elizabeth Allen. Kathleen was born in Calgary, February 5th, 1953 and spent most of her life in Victoria the city she loved. Kathleen passed away peacefully on August 26th, 2016 in the Royal Jubilee Hospital after a brief battle with Cancer.

Kathleen graduated from University of Victoria and embarked on a lifelong career with the Federal Government in the Canada Pensions office where she became a senior staffer and enjoyed the company of many co-workers. For all of us that knew and loved her; siblings, nephews, nieces, and friends, the world will never be quite the same.

On behalf of her family special thanks are given to her friend Bridie Cain, for her watchful eye over Kathleen and managing all of Kathleen’s appointments during her illness and to Mary Bartlett for opening her home at time of need.

Although she wished to attend her niece’s wedding this September, she will be there in spirit and comfortable in knowing her canine companion, George is safe in his new home.

Kathleen is survived by her husband, Peter Allen; sisters, Janine Heptonstall of Vernon B.C., Linda Meehan of Sherborn England, Susan Eyres of London England and brother, Michael Stone of Calgary. Kathleen will also be greatly missed by nieces, Bonnie, Claire, Jackie, Phoebe and nephews, Tristan, Michael, George and Greg.

A celebration of her life will be held at a later date and in lieu of flowers, donations may be made to any animal charity.

Condolences may be offered to the family below.

Peter. I did not know of Kathleen’s illness. I only learned of her passing this week, in a phone message Ralph left. I see she had many friends and family, and no doubt they will help you through this time. Contact me if you want someone from your past to talk to. You and I were very close, once. Perhaps at a time like this a reconnection would be helpful? Charles

My sincere condolences go to all of Kathleen’s loved ones, family and close friends. I worked at the same place and enjoyed her sweet presence. She will continue to look after her loved ones and friends from her new place. Keep in touch with her she is still with us, we just don’t see her.

I was very sad to learn of Kathleen’s illness and then of her untimely passing. I worked with her for many years in the Federal Government and in my experience, she was a focussed and extremely hard-working colleague. She did have a loveliness about her and her passion for flowers and gardens was unmistakeable. Blue and white hydrangeas will always remind me of Kathleen. My sincere condolences to family members and to Peter particularly, you are in my and Gene’s thoughts. Caroline Hudson, Victoria, B.C.

Kathleen was a very unique and special person. I worked with her for over 35 years and we were friends for all that time. I think one of her strongest traits was how much she cared for her staff and how hard she worked for them. The work mattered, the people mattered more. She will be missed.

My condolences are extended to Kathleen’s family. It was a privilege and a pleasure to work with her ‘side by side’ in the last few years as Team Leaders at the Canada Pension Plan office. She was my pillar of strength at work and could always be counted on. Kathleen was one of the reasons I liked going to work each day. Boy, could she make me laugh!!
She was such a sweet and kind soul and always put others first. Kathleen was as beautiful on the inside as she was on the outside and she will be dearly missed. I feel blessed to have been able not only to have worked closely with Kathleen, but I had the fortune of calling this wonderful woman my friend. Although you had a very short battle with cancer, it is your time now to rest in peace Kathleen. Thinking of you always. Diane Hughes
