With heavy hearts our family says goodbye to Kathy. Kathy was born December 25, 1952, in Duncan BC.
A Christmas gift to her parents, Robert and Doris MacKenzie. She grew up in Tofino, BC, where she enjoyed curling and scuba diving. After moving to Victoria, she worked at the Queens Printers for 35 years.
Curling became a lifelong passion. She was very involved with the Victoria Curling Club and Curl BC. She served as a Chief Umpire at Provincial and National Curling events and organized many bonspiels. Kathy travelled to Scotland and the USA representing Canada.
Kathy loved children and treated her nieces and nephews with great affection. She enjoyed quilting and many friends and relatives were lucky to be gifted with one of her quilts. Kathy also enjoyed travelling and made trips to Scotland, Palm Springs and across Canada connecting with family and friends. In particular, she enjoyed her cruises with Adventure Canada which took her to small ports where she could be immersed in the history and culture.
Kathy is survived by her brother Don (Heather) their sons Aaron (Charlotte) and Ryan (Samantha) and sister Marianne (Bruno) and their children Allison (Carl), Nadine (Harry), Darcy (Tiffany) and Michelle (Dan) and their families, as well as her many cousins and friends.
She was predeceased by her brother Roddy, her parents Bob and Doris, and her sister Bonnie.
A Celebration of Life will be held in the Sequoia Centre at McCall Gardens, 4665 Falaise Drive, Victoria, B.C., on Wednesday, May 6, 2026 at 2:00pm.
Condolences may be offered to the family below.

Jessica McWilliams My sincere condolences to Kathy’s family and friends. I had the opportunity to work with Kathy during the CurlBC Mixed Doubles Playdowns held at the Hope Curling Club in early March 2020, when she served as Chief Umpire. Despite challenging circumstances—including a storm-related power outage—Kathy was calm, reasonable, and professional in working through the situation. Her love of curling and fair approach to the game were evident. She will be remembered with respect by those who had the chance to work alongside her.

Mandy Yardley I had the good fortune of meeting Kathy when my daughter qualified for Provincials, many years ago. At the time, she struck me as a very outspoken, fun loving human, and this was later confirmed when we all had to have a turn at the Karaoke machine that evening! I met her many times afterward, both at other curling events and most recently at the Victoria Curling Club.
She was a true testament to volunteering and an asset to the curling world.
Please accept my heartfelt condolences, she will be greatly missed.
