June 20, 1932 – November 14, 2012

Joan’s prayers were finally answered, after a prolonged period of pain and the inability to participate in the activities she enjoyed, when her suffering ended quite suddenly and peacefully on the afternoon of November 14th. Born and educated in the small town of Echuca on the Victoria / New South Wales’ border in Australia she later trained to become a Registered Nurse and Midwife in Melbourne. She emigrated to Canada in 1957 on the first stage of a typical Aussie’s working trip around the world. However her plans changed slightly after meeting her husband-to-be in the Ft. William / Port Arthur region of Ontario. After her marriage to Arthur, in England, in 1959 and the birth of David, in Vancouver, in 1960 she returned to her beloved homeland. Nine years later, after the addition of Paul and Susan, she re-emigrated to Canada and settled in B.C. Although her last 38 years were spent in Victoria, B.C. she always considered Victoria, Down-Under as “home”. ln due course her ashes will be returned to the place of her birth and laid to rest beside her parents and beloved sister, Pat, who predeceased her. Joan will be sadly missed by husband Arthur, children David (Alison), Paul (Correne), and Susan (Paddy), grandchildren Jordan, Kylie, Jessica, Alana and Sarah plus the dear friends she made during her nursing career and time happily spent on the tennis courts and golf course or participating in the numerous sewing classes. The family thank Dr. Morgan and the Palliative Care nurses for their medical support and guidance and Rose Sly for her invaluable spiritual support.

Funeral Service will be held in McCall Bros. Floral Chapel, (Johnson & Vancouver Streets) at 2:00 p.m. on Thursday, November 22,2012. Reception to follow in McCall’s Family Centre. Condolences may be offered below.

Hi Sue: so sorry to ready about your Mom in the paper this morning. The younger picture reminds me so much of you. Thinking of our younger days when you lived on Tashy Place and your Mom was always busy playing tennis 🙂 and your house was always so spick and span!

Thinking of you and your family during this tough time. Glad that you had many years together and she was able to enjoy her grandchildren – a wonderful gift. Love and hugs xoxo
