September 12, 1920 – March 1, 2011

In loving memory of Kathleen Lees who at 90 years passed away at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday in the safe hands of Hospice at the Royal Jubilee Hospital to join her Lord with same grace and dignity that she lived her life. Mom, as she became known to a great many, arrived in Victoria in 1947 to start a new life with husband Jack. Tragedy took her husband when he was young, leaving her with five children. She worked, cared for family and furthered her education resulting in the position of Executive Housekeeper at the newly opened Cowichan District Hospital in Duncan until retirement. Mom did a great deal of volunteering later in life and was deeply involved with her church through St. Patrick’s & Holy Cross parishes. She is survived by her children, Brian, Shaun, Kevin and Ann-Marie all of whom were present to wish her on her way with a Scottish/Irish jig and a toast of sherry. Thanks for being such a great Mom to so many.

Prayers will be offered in MCCALL BROS. FLORAL CHAPEL, Johnson & Vancouver Street on Thursday, March 3rd at 7:00 pm. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated by the Reverend Father Paul Murphy in ST. PATRICK’S CATHOLIC CHURCH, 2060 Haultain Avenue, on Friday, March 4, 2011 at 12:10 p.m., a reception to follow. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Victoria Hospice Society, 1510 Fort Street, Victoria, BC V8S 5J2. Condolences may be offered to the family at www.mccallbros.com

I shall always remember ‘Aunty Kay’ for her charming smile and gracious manner. Also the courage she had to continue raising 5 children on her own. She truly was a very special lady.

I spent many very happy hours both in nelson, victoria and new west when they came to visit us. Our relationship started back in england and continued when we all came to canada. With deepest sympathy. My parents (Gus and Else Strand) both worked at CDH at the same time your Mom was there. She gave me a chance to try out in the housekeeping department. I remember when you first came to Duncan.

    Dear Ann and family,
It has been very many years but I do remember your mom and even from my perspective as a 12 year old at the time she appeared to be the very busy and dedicated hub of your family that I am sure she was. I am sorry for your loss and offer my deepest sympathy and condolences.
    Sincerely,
    Debbie (Stone) Wright

I had the pleasure of working with Kathleen many years ago at St. Joseph’s Hospital. She was a wonderful coworker & encouraging friend. She was steadfast in her faith & a conscientious lady. Over the years we have had many conversations & she always remained a true lady. We admired her. She will be missed.
