In Loving Memory
Slaney – Mrs. Kathleen (Kay, Kelly) Sara Slaney (Moore) passed away peacefully at the age of 96 years on Friday, June 20th, 2008 with her son by her side. She was predeceased by her husband, Fredrick Murray Slaney in September 1993. Lovingly remembered by her son, Terry Slaney of Victoria and her daughter, Colleen (Tom) Brooks of Invermere; her grandchildren, Jody (Leanne) Brooks of Invermere, Trevor Brooks of Winnipeg, Jason Brooks of Invermere, Marlee Slaney of Saskatoon, Taylor Slaney of Saskatoon and her great-grandson Conner Brooks of Invermere; her sisters, Jean Reinhardt of Comox, Patricia Grant of Edmonton and Carmen Moore of Victoria.
Kathleen was born September 7, 1911 on the homestead outside Alsask Saskatchewan, the second of six daughters born to Harry and Lucille Moore. She and her sisters always talked about what a wonderful childhood they had. Kathleen attended Normal School in Saskatoon and was a gifted teacher, loved and remembered by all her students. She taught in Eatonia and Kindersley and later in Calgary. On July 9th, 1940, Kathleen married Fredrick Murray Slaney in the minister’s home in Payton, Saskatchewan. Soon after their marriage, Fred left to go overseas with the armed forces. During the war Kathleen lived and worked in Montreal and Ottawa. When the war ended, Kathleen and Fred joined thirteen other families to form the Beechy Co-op Farm. Kathleen was a busy farm wife and an active community worker. When the farm sold, they moved to Calgary and Kathleen went back to teaching. In 1978 they moved to Medicine Hat where they enjoyed many happy times with friends and neighbours. After Fred passed away, Kathleen moved to Saskatoon and then in 2002 she went to Victoria to be closer to family.
Kathleen was an avid walker and was always aware of the beauty in nature around her. She had an adventuresome spirit and was ready for any opportunity that came her way. Kathleen had many friends that she kept in touch with, including former students. She enjoyed travel and later in her life made trips to Ontario, California, Ireland and Japan. She was a devoted wife, loving mother, amazing teacher and faithful friend. Her strong faith was reflected in the way she lived her life. Her memory will be cherished.
