With an overwhelming sense of loss and deep sadness, we announce the passing of Kenn Porter after a short and courageous battle with cancer. Kenn died peacefully at home on July 3, 2009 surrounded by family and friends. He was born May 28, 1950 in Lacombe Alberta. Kenn will be lovingly remember by his wife, Wendy; parents, Jack and Audrey Porter and children, Tracey, and Beau(Lenore); sister, Kathy Dorval (Mike). Lovingly remembered by Wendy’s family; mother, Joy; sisters, Nancy and Linda; brothers, Gordon, Bob (Cathy), Don (Audrey) and Greg (Lesley). Kenn will be fondly remembered by all his nieces, nephews and cousins. Kenn’s many friends will miss his humour and zest for life that he brought to everyone he met. Kenn worked for B.C. Transit for 16 years and worked right up until December 2008 when he went in the hospital for surgery. Kenn had a lot of interests but he loved to golf and his last game was with his best friend Randy who was always by his side in times of good and especially at the difficult times. I would like to thank family and friends and everyone at Queenswood for all the support we have received over the past months. I would also like to particularly thank All the Sisters of St. Ann who have been such a support and comfort to us during this difficult time. To the Victoria Hospice, thank you for allowing Kenn to be at home which was his sanctuary. Kenn’s wishes were to be cremated. In lieu of flowers, please send any donations to Victoria Hospice or Queenswood Centre for Spiritual Growth, 2494 Arbutus Road, Victoria, B.C.
His celebration of life will be on Sunday August 2, 2009 at 2:30 pm at Queenswood Centre for Spiritual Growth.

  • Gail Topping

My husband, Réal Topping, was in the same hospital room as Kenn when they both had similar operations in mid December 2008. They shared many laughs and enjoyed exchanging tidbits about their life. Réal was quite jealous when Kenn was allowed to go home and he missed Kenn’s strength and humour. Complications set in for Réal and he died January 2, 2009.
Someone phoned me from Victoria today to tell me about Kenn. It’s going to be difficult for all of you and I offer you my condolences on the loss of this outstanding man.

    Wendy & Tracey,

We keep Kenn in our hearts as the happy, feisty, creative, fun, funny, generous, warm guy with the cool hat and the motorcycle. We are so sad for your loss as well as anyone who had Kenn in their lives. He will be greatly missed!

    Love to you both!

    Dear Wendy and family,
My sincere sympathies for your loss.
Kenn was a very generous man in all ways. I will miss his sense of humour most and will always remember the day sailing trip we took together.
    Peace be with you,
