Laura was a well traveled incredible lady.I had the pleasure of showing her around the places in England that her parents were associated with, she was never short in asking questions. My mother (her cousin) had the pleasure of visiting her in Victoria where she was made so welcome.

Laura was an incredible force of nature- NOBODY pulled the wool over Laura’s eyes, not Hosie, Hough, Stenstrom, Mackay, Lott, or anybody else.
With Laura, the patient came FIRST, St. Joes was second, then she sorted out the rest of us according to our just deserts, as she saw them. She saw them pretty damned accurately, I think. What a lady. If we had a few more like her, and if the geniuses who “run” the system would go where they should go, our medical system (and the world) would be a better place.
Did she ever get over her crush on Gordie Howe??!!??

I arrived in Victoria in 1962 and as a surgeon got to appreciate what a talented and dedicated nurse she was. As a head nurse then supervisor there was never any question that the patients’ welfare came first. But Laura dealt with surgeons…not always easy to get along with…..administrators…even worse…. and her nursing staff, with kindness and humor.
After retirement Margaret and I saw Laura from time to time and became aware of how well she faced the sometimes difficult conditions in her life. Bravo Laura.

We extend our sincere sorrow at the passing of Laura …….often called FOSTER!!
At work she ran an extremely efficient O.R. and over time became a very good friend to my parents and ourselves.
An evening with Laura, Betty and Hughie was always fun.
She and Betty are hopefully now reminiscing about all their travels together.
    Most sincerely
    Alastair and Bella.

My heartfelt condolences go out to Laura’s family. She was one of my volunteers at the Fairfield Community Police station. She was very affectionately nicknamed “Fossie Bear” On so many occasions she kept us in stitches laughing at her nursing stories. She was an incredible person and she will always be in my memory. I wish her peace and know God will have a most willing helper.

Laura Foster was a wonderful and compassionate person. I will dearly miss her cheerful personality and contagious smile. Many years ago, I worked with Laura as a volunteer with the Victoria City Police Department. During that time we shared so many fun and memorable moments. We attended many Victoria Shamrocks games together,,,,the highlight always being her proud voice singing ‘O’Canada’. Her voice always boomed off the rafters in the old Memorial Arena. Laura…..let the angels sing for you now. You will always be missed.

Laura was a wonderful friend. We shared many memories of our days at St. Joseph’s Hospital. It was during this time that I met and loved her parents who permitted Laura to teach me to drive in her Father’s Buick.
After our graduation we remained friends and even though I was living far away we always got together whenever I was in Victoria. I attended her Retirement Party, held at the Empress Hotel. We heard how greatly appreciated Laura was by all of the Medical Staff. They “Roasted” Laura with their many fond memories of her dedication in running the O.R..
I know how much Laura was suffering with her medical condition but she always had a cheerful attitude despite this. I will always remember her wonderful ‘laugh’ which she expressed often
I wish Laura peace and freedom from all pain.
Cheerio Laura and enjoy your last journey.

I am so sorry for the loss of Laura. I never had the honor of meeting her but I heard many wonderful things about her through my mother. Mother worked in the OR at St. Joes with Laura. My mom’s job was not a nurse but she would help set up the OR. My mom became pregnant and Laura was sooo good to her. Making her take rests, taking food that was provided for the doctors and giving it to my mother so she ate healthy. She took very good care of my mother so much so that my mother named her baby after her. May you rest in peace Laura….the world is a much better place because you were in it!
