January 24, 1918 – March 17, 2015

Laura grew up on a farm near Glenford, Alberta in the 1920s and was independent of spirit in a way often seen in her generation.  She excelled in baking, cooking, gardening, canning, and sewing.  On their first visit to her family’s farm, she amazed her new English husband by riding a horse standing up on its back. For their wedding, she baked her own cake and sewed her own dress.  In 1951, Laura settled in Vancouver with husband Thomas and eventually moved to Victoria. They together raised three strong children and built the family’s security to a comfortable level.  She could fix anything around the house and in the garage, including doing bodywork on her beloved Studebaker.  She had a career outside the home for many years.  Until the very end she continued to pursue all of the activities she loved.  She will be remembered for her deep faith, kindness, generosity and wisdom, and not the least for her intrepid perseverance.  She passed away at age 97 in the midst of her devoted family.

Predeceased by her husband Thomas Patrick Osborne (2006), Laura is very deeply missed by her children Gary, Daniel, and Louise (Quinby); grandchildren Bryan, Krista, Michelle, David, Matthew, Patrick and Angela: and great grandchildren Jade, Aura, and Mayah. She will also be missed by her remaining nieces and nephews.

Many thanks to the staff at Victoria General Hospital for their excellent care.

Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Wednesday, March 25, at 10:00 a.m. in St. Patrick’s Church, 2060 Haultain Street, Victoria BC.  Interment will follow, with Father Harrison Ayre as celebrant.

In lieu of flowers, it is Laura’s request to give donations to Covenant House Vancouver who work ceaselessly to support homeless youth through very difficult circumstances. (www.covenanthousebc.org).

My sister-in law Laura was an amazing woman Never tiring for doing what was right. Always ready to do whatever she could to help others. Laura was selfless and devoted to the benefit of those less fortunate. She was a stalwart to the very end. Laura can rest in Peace. Even though that is not what she would seek. Perhaps the Great Spirit will keep her busy. That would be happiness for her. Thank you Laura We have learned and benefitted from you ways.
