June 13, 1959 – January 26, 2011

It is with profound sorrow and sadness that we annouce the passing of Lou after a brief and valliant struggle with cancer. Survived by his wife Colleen, daughters Amber (Justin), Lacy & Allana (Joe), grandson Toby, parents Nan and Harold, brothers Ken (Laura), Don, Rob and sister Gloria. Many nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, cousins and too many friends to count.
Lou had many varied and eclectic interests but his passion was soccer (Go You Spurs!). He played youth soccer at Lakehill & with the Victoria Athletics at the senior level. He spent the last 30 plus years with the Master Batters slo-pitch team winning a lifetime of friends (chur! chur!). The A’s, MB’s and their families will miss his style, skill and sense of humour on and off the playing fields. His stories around the campfire, his antics on the pitch & his laughter on the diamond will not be forgotten.
His working life was spent in the hospitality and service industry throughout Victoria, at the Harbour Towers, Strathcona Hotel and RCL Britannia and points in between. He was the consummate salesman and host.
The family would like to thank the staff on 3 Royal and the Hospice for their incredible care and compassion given to Lou.
No service be request. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Victoria Hospice, Victoria Athletic Association at 4152 North Rd. Vic., BC V8Z 5H8 or the RCL Britannia #7 at 780 Summit Ave. Vic., BC V8T 5C2 in Lou’s memory.
A celebration of life will be held on Friday Feb. 4, 2011 at 3pm at the Esquimalt Legion , 622 Admirals rd.
Condolences for the family may be offered at www.mccallbros.com

    Dear Colleen,

There really are no words to express how terribly sorry I am to hear of Lou’s passing. My heart is with you and your children.
I will always remember the smile and the good times at the A’s club on Oak St. Lou lived life his way and left with no “what ifs” on the table. He was a good man, a family man and a friend. Big hugs to you all. Love Halana

    To Colleen and family –

My deepest sympathy in the loss of Lou. I remember being on the Social Committee at Coast, holding our Crib & Darts nights at the Strathcona, and Lou was so helpful, and so very funny. Also at the school events at Hampton, he was so proud of all the girls.

    He will be missed.

My thoughts go out to all of Lou’s girls.

We are so saddened that Lou lost the fight. We are going to miss him so much at the Legion. We loved his personality and the way he fought for what was right. No matter what we had on our mind, Lou was there to listen and give us his perspective. His stories about his days playing soccer and being chased by a bear up a tree were so interesting. Our deepest thoughts are with you and your family.

    Dear Colleen and Family,

I am so saddened to hear this news. When I started work at Harbour Towers Hotel, Lou was the Sales Manager and as I was brought on as Catering Coordinator, I worked with Lou (Lou-Lou the Sales Guru). What a fabulous sense of humour and just a great person. I can remember he would always be buying watches and destroying them because of some magnetic effect he had on them that made the hands spin ‘wonky’ – hilarious 🙂 He made me laugh and laugh some more.
It has been many years since I have seen Lou, but he is fondly remembered and will never be forgotten.
My heartfelt condolences to you Colleen and to your children.

Having spent high school and playing on two teams together it was very evident that Lou was a very personable friend. Always made friends and never really lost them. We lost touch for a few years but soccer always had a way of providing mini reunions. The man never seemed to change always jovial and humerous. He will be missed by a great many people.

    Enjoy your new life Lou………

    To Colleen and Family

Lou coached me in in the early years of Highschool for Lakehill and I am still baffled as to why. We were a few years younger than him and we were complete crap. Through it all I can still here him cheering from the side line “you can do it” “good work”. I thank him for that because anyone of us could have quit including him. Thankfully neither of us packed it in and I really enjoyed playing against him as well. I think he had better success against me than many others.

My condolences to Colleen and all the family and friends.

  • Eileen & Tony

I worked with Lou at the Harbour Towers and will always remember his wonderful sense of humour. We called him, Lou, Lou the Sales Guru. He was a true gentleman.
