It is with profound sadness that the family of Léopold Simoneau announces his passing into everlasting sleep. Mr. Simoneau gracefully took his last bow surrounded by his loving family. Mr. Simoneau was born in St. Flavien, Québec and started his life as a singer at the age of seventeen. His extensive and successful career brought him to the greatest Opera Houses in Europe and North America and he eventually came to be known as the greatest Mozart interpreter. Along with his wife Pierrette Alarie, he recorded many Operas and Concerts which continue to bring joy and passion to the world and will inspire future generations. Among many artistic honours and recognitions, Léopold Simoneau received the Order of Canada in 1971 and in 1995 was elevated to the rank of Companion of the Order of Canada. He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Pierrette Alarie and his two daughters Isabelle and Chantal as well as his son-in-law, Dr. Bill Schuler; all of whom wish to thank the nursing staff at the Royal Jubilee Hospital’s Dialysis Department as well as the staff in 2 West for their incredible care and support. In addition, the family would like to express deep gratitude to his attending physicians, Dr. James Stockdill and Dr. Ganz. At the request of Mr. Simoneau, there will not be a service. A memorial celebrating his life will be held at a later time. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made, in his memory, to the Kidney Foundation of Canada BC Branch, #320-1600 West 6th Avenue, Vancouver BC, V6J 1R3 or The Salvation Army, 4030 Douglas Street, Victoria BC, V8T 5B5.
