Lillian passed away on October 29, 2016 at Mount Tolmie Hospital, Victoria BC. She was born in Victoria on May 12, 1919 to parents, William and Kathleen Cooper. Lillian was predeceased by husband, Wilson (March 17, 1982) and brother, Charles. She is survived by brother, Norman; sons, Brian (Nancy), Bill (Tannis) and daughter, Vida (Wayne Fenton); granddaughters, Karen Money and Caroline Beirness (Carl); great-grandsons, Logan and Brandon Wicklum.
Lillian grew up in Victoria attending Spring Ridge, George Jay and South Park Schools graduating from Vic High. A life-long political and women’s rights activist, she championed for many pursuits including the NDP (and the former CCF), YWCA, PTA, United Way, Victoria Council of Women, Greater Victoria Assoc. on Alcoholism, Society for the Preservation of Ayum Creek (SPAC), and The Land Conservancy (TLC). When mobility decreased, she continued her financial support of many worthy causes such as Greater Victoria United Way and Doctors Without Borders. When her husband retired in 1980, they moved to Sooke where she enjoyed the rural atmosphere and her garden until April 2012. She loved gardening, classical music, opera, playing Scrabble and reading.
The family wishes to thank the staff at Mount Tolmie Hospital and The Cridge for their caring attention to Mom in her final years.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday, December 3, 2016 from 2- 4pm at Knox Presbyterian Church, 2110 Church Road in Sooke.
In lieu of flowers, donations would be appreciated in Lillian’s memory to Greater Victoria United Way.

Brian: Edith & I saw your mom’s obit in the newspaper, and it gave us such pause. We didn’t know your mom, but we’ve lost our own and know the sense of loss, the change of matriarch, and the plain weirdness of having her “gone” let alone grief. Our thoughts are with you and Nancy.
