Lisa-Marie East

August 28, 1962 – September 5, 2013

Lisa died at home surrounded by loved ones. She leaves behind her wife Lisa Maas, brothers Dan (Jacqui) and Don (Ejta), her dear friends Debbie, Jazmyn, Janner, Mona, Heather, Sandy, Joanna, and so many other people who knew and loved her. She was predeceased by her parents and twin brother Doug.

For over 20 years she worked taking care of old folks, something she loved to do and was truly gifted at. In 2008 Lisa and her wife fulfilled her life-long dream of opening a restaurant. For 3 years they worked side by side feeding and getting to know the good people of Esquimalt at the Sunnyside Cafe. She lived by the words “People won’t remember what you did or said, only how you made them feel.” Lisa made us all feel cherished, and she always made those around her feel better with her kindness, compassion, thoughtfulness and generosity. Lisa lived for time spent with loved ones, for picnics, animals, the outdoors, ideas and words, riding her motorcycle, and eating! We will all miss her dearly. In lieu of flowers donations can be made to the SPCA or Victoria Hospice.

A Celebration of Life will be held at McCall’s Reception Centre, Johnson and Vancouver Streets on Friday, September 27th at 2pm. Everyone welcome.

  1. I had the huge pleasure of working with Lisa for many years and she was simply one of the loveliest people that I have ever met.
Her twinkling eyes and brilliant smile were loved by all of us that she worked with and those that she cared for.
She shared them generously with both.
I always admired Lisa for her beautiful, loving, calm spirit and her strong authentic sense of self.
It is a great sadness that she is gone.
My deepest condolences Lisa and everyone that she loved and that loved her.

  2. Dear Lisa, I just want you to know I’m thinking about you, and only half knowing how you must be feeling right now. A woman like Lisa must leave a great impact on everyone she knew, especially you. I am so very sorry. Only the passing of time will help.

    Love, Pam Nowell.

  3. Dear family of Lisa–I worked with Lisa at Glengarry Hospital for several years & remember her as being a very caring, capable nurse aide–a pleasure to have on the unit. My sincere sympathy to all of you as I’m sure you will miss her very much. Kind regards, Lynn Davies (retired RN)

  4. Our houses are darker since this bright, shining light has faded! She left this world basked in the love she so freely gave to others. Good bye Lis! Xox Heather

We are very saddened to read of the passing of Lisa. Our memory of Lisa, when we first met at the opening of the Sunnyside Cafe is one of a friendly, warm & gentle demeanour of a women. Better words have never been spoken “people won’t remember what you did or said, only how you made them feel.” Yes Lisa, we do remember how you made us feel. Our deepest condolences.
